I have big hands. I need a big folder that is good quality. I prefer a wide blade to a pointy one and I like an all business feel. Is the Manix it? Any others I should consider? I am going to order soon.

Thanks!

you should take a look at a strider smf's specs... it plenty big and plenty business like... i've heard people bash strider up and down... and frankly it's bla bla bla ... i don' know about mick strider as a person, and besides his family and friends who really cares... the knives will not disapoint.

I definitely recommend the Manix. I love that knife. It feels perfect in my hand. Id say i have large hands... If you want an "all business" feel, you want a manix.

I totally agree with dnilce87 the Manix is the Knife, you wont be dissappointed and if you are you can always sell it to me.......

I think for a low dollar tough knife go with the Spyderco. If you can afford it though, get the Strider. Pivot is MUCH bigger and lock style is the type I prefer, of which are either frame lock or liner lock. They make both. The liner lock is very thick.

Regarding the Spyderco, I'm not a fan of the lockback because it usually required two hands, though I've learned to close my Spyderco with one hand by pushing the lock and then folding the blade on my thigh. Hope I don't stab myself one day. :D Spydies have good value for the mooola. In the end if I had to go into the field with one folder, it would be the Strider. Just my opinion.

You can't go wrong with a Manix if you are looking for a big folder.
The handle fits my hands better than any other Spyderco. The shape and the grind of the blade are great for general utility purposes and the steel is S30V.
You get a whole lot of knife for your money and I don't know any knife that offers more around $100.
With a little practice it is not too difficult to close one handed either.
Depress lock bar, stop blade at the choil and close.

With what you have said you are definiteley going to love the Manix. You wont be dissapointed at all.

Lot's of other choices I overlooked! I will do some more research but the Manix is sounding better and better. This knife will be an EDC but won't see much utility type use. It will be more for defensive use on the off-chance that I really need it and then for normal type EDC use if neccessary.

I have a Mini-grip as my utility EDC, I just want something bigger that really fills my hand for those days when I feel like I might benefit from a larger blade.

Thanks again and keep the opinions coming!

Sulaco -

If you really like and can handle a large knife the Benchmade Rukus with 4.25 inch blade is what you want. The price isn't too crazy, like some of the "S" knives and for a half-pound knife it feels very good in the hand. It comes very sharp which would cause concerns for those that can't safely handle a large knife. You wouldn't want to slip or drop this hooter.

The Spyderco Military model has a 4" blade and is the twin to the Manix with a different blade shape (more pointy). I like the handle shape of the Millie vrs. the Manix although both feel very good. The Manix really kicked butt in that British Blades forum testing of big folders didn't it? I emailed the guy and told him I'd like to see part two of the test with a Benchmade Rukus and Skirmish and the Spyderco Military models included.

Check out a Lone Wolf Harsey Ranger with a 4.75 inch blade. If you want a big folder this is it. S30V blade and comes with a nice sheath. I have a couple New in the Box that I will sell for $150. Model 14800.

The Manix is not for you.....:(

Perhaps the Rukus or the Skirmish? (both made by Benchmade)

Here are some pics:

First the Manix, next to the Skirmish (and a custom knife at bottom)

And the Skirmish next to the Rukus

Picture of the Skirmish in my hand (I wear "L" size gloves...not a BIG hand, but not small either)

The Manix is too small for oversized hands. The Skirmish might be "just barely enough". The Rukus would feel just right. ;)

Thanks for the swell pics Mr. Koster!

Another vote for the Manix although in the end, it would still be best to handle your knife choices. Personal preference and use still dominate.

Great googly moogly, the Rukus is big. I just received a BM710D2 yesterday, I've held a Skirmish a week ago and compared to the 710, I thought the Skirmish was ginormous (not ridiculously ginormous like the Cuda Maxx).

Now I sort of want to see one in person ... :D

Yeah, my thought, too. It actually makes the Skirmish look like a modestly - sized folder. Hmmm .... might just have to pick one of those up.

Well now, this is all quite interesting indeed!

I had no idea that the size difference between the Skirmish and the Manix was so great. I thought they were much more similar in size.

Thank you very much for the pics Daniel. They help tremendously!

Well, I am definitely back to looking at the Rukus now. I had initially wanted it but the Manix appealed to me so I decided on it. But now I am looking hard at the Rukus.

Any more opinions on the Lone Wolf knives? They look very well made and at the quoted price are very competitive with the Rukus.

I would LOVE to see a picture of the big Lone Wolf Ranger and the Rukus. Anyone?
