Is the Para really that good?

You needed to practice. :D The Para felt strange to me at first also.
Now it's second nature rapid fire Para Power!!

Where can you buy Para's for $80.00? That's a deal!

He was talking about the Manix 2 being available for around that price, not the Para.

BTW, I find the M2 very easy to open and close with one hand.

I must have read it wrong. I'll get a Manix2 very soon.:)

A camp knife for me is more of a general purpose knife that can step up to bigger tasks if needed, maybe at most cutting heavy duty rope/cord, pvc piping, soft building materials, skinning and cutting meat and soft bone etc.

Either knife will do just fine for you - though I'm kind of wondering what PVC piping has to do with camping? ;).

Honestly, for the cord and such, you may just want a SE small folder/fixed as it's much more efficient, but if you need a all-around folder, my vote is still for the Military or Para-Military for blade vs weight.

The Manix 2 is a bit more budget-friendly, and will serve you very well. Pretty sure the edge length, blade length, and overall length are pretty darn close too (to the Para).

I've had my Para D2 for over a month now and it's a keeper. I picked up a mini grip shortly thereafter and was enamored with the axis lock, but once that wore off, the Para found a permanent place on my pocket. The G10 has mellowed to a perfect feel and I am amazed at how long the CPMD2 has stayed sharp compared to the 154CM on the mini. I personally find the handle/blade ratio great as it gives me a lot to hang onto and good control of the blade. I'd like another Spydie, but honestly can't imagine a "better" model for me.

Its no Caly 3.....
It's better :).

Actually, IMO, the Caly 3 and Para-Millie fulfill different roles. I just find the Caly 3 a tad small for my utility purposes, but it makes a great mid-small city EDC, and it cuts and slices superbly.

Both have the superb Spyderco ergos, though the Caly 3 is definitely a bit more neutral, and fits my hand slightly better - the blade is almost much more in-line with the handle, making the standard saber-grip very comfy. The Para, on the other hand, has more negative blade angle and is my favorite mid-sized, thick-bladed folder. Both knives I can only use comfortably with the index choil.
Not sure, but I think my Caly 3 is a bit heavier than my Para.

The Para is my EDC - usually along with a SAK Huntsman. I've read some complaints on here about it's detent, but I've never found mine to open when I didn't want/expect it to, so it seems fine to me. As far as camp/hunting duty(if I can ever find the time for them?!!?) I've got a Fallkniven F1 waiting for that.

Good luck,

Sean

Manix 2 is probably tougher then the Para. I love the Para for edc, but the Manix 2 would win out for a camp knife if I couldn't carry my millie.

how about a photo of the Manix II next to the Para... anyone?
