Is the RC-5 unpopular?

I have both the RC-3 and am awaiting my new RC-5. The 3 is going to become my edc knife and the 5 will go in my work bag. On my pack I have a reworked kukri and that is pretty damn near a tank.. The rc5 will take up less room and in my opinion be just as good if not better. Now if I could only find one of the eagle sheaths everyone is talking about .....

I love my RC 5. Its my favorite of the bunch. It does everything I need it to do. It might perform as well for certain tasks but it will do it. I'm looking for an eagle sheath too.

Rat sells cordura sheaths for the rc5 on thier website. I haven't held one, but from the rest of the gear I'd assume thier top notch.

I think its a good knife as a large tactical/survival type blade. I have the busse batac which I feel fits in a similar role. They are big heavy knives and can take a beating to hell and back and are still screaming for more. Sadly, they also weigh a ton and are a little bulky. For bushcraft and hiking I prefer a knife that is better for slicing, can baton some and carve well. I would prefer a small fixed blade and a hatchet for survival, or a large fixed blade (like the rc 10 or a machete). Just personal choice on your own set of skills etc. No knife is good for everyone:)

Too thick for my tastes, I think the handle would also be thick and cumbersome when compared to the other models. But hey I haven't held one so my opinion is based off of specs and the other opinions from owners.

The handle while being thicker than on the RC6 (which shares the same handle dimensions) Is amazingly comfortable to use and very positive in the hand. The knife is perfectly balanced as well. It is far more fluid in use than it first appears.

I think the bottom line to all this is, NO, the RC-5 is not unpopular. Everyone has and is entitled to their opinions. The RC-5 is a beautiful beast of a knife, and is way more blade then I personally need, but I love mine anyway. It is the right knife for me, and it may or may not be the right knife for you. Only you can decide that and screw popularity, who gives two shits what others think. If it makes you happy then go with it. Don't over analyze it, feel it, what's it saying to you? Or just buy them all! :D:thumbup:

I agree. Its one of my favorites.

Unlike Jeff, I like the RC-5. A pound of steel that will never let you down in a tough situation.

I do not carry mine (RC5) as a general bush knife but I like it a lot and have not ever felt it was a disadvantage when using it. A tomato slicer it ain't but it cuts fine. I have big hands and for me it works. I also have a RC3 and three Izula's set up different ways that get used a lot as well. I liked lightstryders comments above, carry wot works for you and do not spend any time bothering about the opinions of others...each to their own!

i own a rc-5 and like it alot its a very nice knife but i think id like the rc-3 or rc-4 better. the 3 and 4 are going to be way lighter then the rc-5. i carry it on my day pack so i cant notice how bad the weight is but to have it on your belt its to much for me. im planning on getting a rc-3 but with xmas and possibility of getting laid off is postponing my purchase. rc-5 is a great knife and its a beast. id get it and if its to much sell it and get a rc-3. just my 2 cents hope it helps

I like the RC5 but don't have one yet. I held one and it is next on my list. I have in this order RC6,RC3 and Izula. Next to get in order RC5,Jungala and lite Machete. All rats

Couldn't agree more...perfectly balanced to offset the weight. While not as easily or perhaps efficiently, it can do everything the RC-6 can do, and a few important things that it can't.

Got a bit annoyed with this thread so cleaned and cut up a nice chamois I shot this morning, and guess what?, my RC5 worked fine. Merry Christmas as well folks!

I don't have an RC5, but I have to say, after receiving the RP RC3 I am totally impressed.

To me that RC3 just has the RIGHT feel. I think it would fit most of your needs except the "limbing" and for that, My RC4 has performed well. For what I need (bush craft field knife) I cant think of too much better than a RC3 or RC4. Anything else becomes over kill for my needs... Of course your mileage may vary.

PS, I totally didn't think I would dig the RC3 and got it only because it was "special". Im really glad I did now. Ive been using it since I got it... its a fine knife.
