Is the Street Beat really that awesome?

I've been looking hard at the Street Beat and I'm starting to think it might be worth the buy. I love VG10 and the ergos and scales on Perrin's designs are absolutely awesome from what I've read.

Who has one and what are your experiences with it? Likes/dislikes?

I'm trying to convince myself that I don't need one, but it appears to be a losing battle. Sad thing is that there is no Brick/Mortar place around here that has one, so I can't really feel before I buy (which is honestly how it's been for most of my folders I guess).

Also, if someone has a pic of one vs something similar like an ESEE-3 or Becker BK14 or BK11 that would be awesome. I've seen it compared to a Para-2, but the Para-2's handle is enormous.

I will say, emphatically, that is a great little knife; small and unobtrusive; smooth handle slabs with a nice finger choil and palm swell (sweet ergonomics for a small knife) Carries well on my belt, horizontally and is about as non threatening as a fixed blade gets. The only real issue that some folks complain about, and is true in my case, is that the sheath is a tad loose and the knife rattles slightly. I don't really notice it that much though. I think you'll be pleased if you get one!

I think my first order of business upon getting the knife would be to find a leather sheath (that any self-respecting bowie deserves).

:)

So it actually depends on what are you looking for. Bladewise and pricewise I would pick Bill Moran upswept bowie or Perrin Street bowie. The handle and the size sets Street beat aside from the other two.
The finger guard has sharpish corners and cuts into the kidex sheath, making it loose after a while. If you find a leather sheath for it is will be of no concern for you of course.
It's a great knife of course, there is no question about it. Is it worth the price that would be for you to decide though.

Mike Sastre makes great Kydex for the Street Beat Bowie if you desire a new sheath.

The Street Beat is a very well made knife. The micarta handle's contours are both beautiful and extremely ergonomic. My only complaint is the sheath. A knife this nice deserves leather.

I had one and really loved it. The only reason I got rid of it was my friend really wanted it and I owed him. I like the sheath and almost everything about the design. If it were just a little longer in the blade I would have kept it for sure (I didnt owe him that big!).

ditto on the above. its a great little big knife and mine is not for sale.it fits the hand like it grew there. go ahead pull the trigger you wont be sorry

I just got myself a Street Beat for my BDay last month, and it's fantastic. Perfect size for me to wear on my hip every day. Well worth the price. I actually like the Boltaron sheath it comes with, as well.

It actually is that awesome.. Not a sharpened crowbar type tactical but more of an EDC tactical, very usefull in the kitchen but have also split logs with it without problems. It's good looks also help since it doesn't look "scary" which I prefer.
(great knife for travelling)
The sheath is production style, works but could definitely be much nicer.
Quick crappy size comparison pic:

I'll try to figure out how to post pics here...

I can't seem to figure out the pic thing.
The knife handles great. The handle is quite small for my preferences but feels great, doesn't need to be bigger. Fred Perrin seems to be very good at making effective small handles.
(I usually hate small handles but have liked all the Perrins I've handled)
If you wan't the pic (Street Beat with a Fallkniven F1, a Mora, a Becker Esee necknife and a DPX Hest) you can also send me a mail at: 75gandhi@gmail.com

Hey EZ,

You are right to want one. I've EDC ed this knife for a while and absolutely Love it. I have medium size hands and find the contoured scales perfect. The butt on the tang rests in my palm while the DEEP index choil and aggressive jimping locks my hand in. I've carried it inside the waistband. If you are right handed, simply install the clip for left hand carry. Slip the sheath inside your pants where you would normally carry on strong side, leave the clip on the outside of your pants. Slip the clip over your belt. Voila! The clip will keep everything in place.

Check with your local laws before you EDC any kind of blade. I've stopped carrying fixed blades. Most municipal by laws prohibit this, where I am. Police may even try to arrest you for conceal carry.

This being said....this blade is hard to beat (pun intended).... Love the G10, But the design of the knife makes it so that you forget its on you..... Amazing! Extremely comfy to carry. Mine has extensive kitchen duty:). Esthetics are another plus. It is a gorgeous knife. I'm planning to get another before Spyderco stops making them.....

Pics of comparison with a Swamp Rat Rodent 3 (another great choice, in a Buy Brown sheath).

You simply can't go wrong!

The Swexan said it best........" ditto on the above. its a great little big knife and mine is not for sale.it fits the hand like it grew there . go ahead pull the trigger you wont be sorry"

Thanks for the pics, I didn't know my Rodent 3 needed a play friend...until now.

Next up for me should be a Busse SAR3 ...... Love them small blades!!!!!

If someone does know a leather sheath maker that can make one for the street beat, let me know. He's got to be able to make it without me having to ship it in.... Thanks

Hell yes. I edc mine with the sheath clipped inside my pocket. It is the biggest little knife I have had the pleasure of owning. I only wish they made a street Bowie in a similar format (micarta handle, etc).

I second that motion..... With full tang, of course:thumbup:

I'm going to be honest here - this thread nearly pushed me over the top but a friend reminded me of Oklahoma's stupid knife laws listing "bowie" knives as restricted from carry.

And while I understand that "Clip-point" doesn't necessarily equal "bowie" I think most LEOs (that actually know the law) would disagree.

I'm still contemplating buying it and just carrying it in "safe" areas, but not being able to EDC it everywhere really puts a damper on things.

I don't like a big index finger cutout for general usage. On the plus side it looks cool and it functions as a finger guard.
