Over years of responding to arguments, accusations and displeasures, I have realized that the only approach is to let whoever is unhappy pour out their opinion and to wait until they have no more to say. I think by now, everyone has had their say.

Bear with me while I share a few thoughts from my side. Chris and I lead a small company and work hard to ensure that the product that leaves the door is the very best that we can make. We take our business very seriously - it has been our livelihood for 17 years. We have ridden a wide variety of ups and downs, compliments and criticisms. Chris and I attend to the details, take care of our customers and our employees. We have an excellent staff and we are proud of them and the work they do. We do not plan to change any of this.

While the Forum is an important place of communication, it has to fall in line with all the other responsibilities I have in my day. There is accounting work to be done, payroll, mail, email, advertising and a myriad of other things. As good as Julie is at her job, when Bridget and I are away for a week, these items get behind and must be brought current. Chris and I have a 10 year old son and, particularly after we have had to leave him with friends for over a week, the weekend belongs to him, not BladeForums. On Friday, January 19, our company was closed. The owners of the building are adding on and the electrical connection scheduled to take place on Friday required that the power be cut off to the entire building. This was a situation that did not excite us but it was beyond our control. While I can understand the concerns that were expressed on the Forum, I truly did not see them as life and death issues.

For those who have poured out support for Chris and Chris Reeve Knives, come our sincerest thanks. For those who have criticized us, it is your right to voice your opinion but remember that responsibility comes with the freedom to make these comments, deductions and judgments. I would urge everyone who posts on these Forums to think carefully and clearly before they jump in.

In regards to the "Lenny" issue, there is nothing else to be said besides the fact that his knife shipped overnight from our workshop on January 10 and it would appear that he is satisfied.

In the issue concerning our warranty, there is no more to be said than has already been stated, both in recent and several previous threads. Our warranty is not unconditional, nor has it ever pretended to be. It is a solid backup for knives that out-perform any in the market and, time and again, we have proven that we provide service beyond the wording of the warranty.

I will continue to monitor the Forum as regularly and thoroughly as I can, but I am not super-human.

Anne

Thanks Anne, level headed as always....

Chris Reeve knives are still the center of my collection and will always be that, in fact I finally got a hold of a small Classic Sebenza and now just need to latch on to a large Wood inlay Sebenza....time and money....time and money

Anne, thank you so much for your elegant and thoughtful response. And also, thank you for continuing to support the forum here. There are many of us who appreciate having it and do not want to lose it, although given the recent "trial by internet" as you so aptly named it, I wouldn't blame you if you closed it. My personal opinion is that in manufacturer forums we are invited guests, and there should be at least a modicum of respect for the forum and the people who run the forum. So I really appreciate your input and hope you continue to support BladeForums. No doubt the Internet can be an openly hostile environment. People often say things by modem they would never say to your face. Manners seem to be a lost art on the internet. That's the sad part. But the good part is that there is a lot of great communication going on, a lot of positive ideas being exchanged. There will always be those who find a loose thread and want to pull on it to see what will unravel but you have a lot of support here, as well you should. Besides being all-round good and decent people, you make great knives. So--thanks for putting up with us.

My first post on the CR Forum follows - My opinion only, but "trial by internet" may not be all that bad.

The post that kicked the whole thing off seemed to me to be very respectful and more questioning than accusatory. The responses seemed more reasoned and mature than I'm used to seeing - very few members "read in" a demand for "free" that never actually occured in the original post.

At any rate, I got curious enough to finally buy a large Sebenza. At first, I wasn't able to see what all the fuss was about but slowly, almost imperceptably, it became my everyday carry. I also believe it to be both my most capable carry knife together with being the most socially responsible (looks non-threatening). A decorated small would probably be even more "dressy" and socially viable and is definitely on my new "must have" list.

At any rate, if the original post is the closest thing to a complaint that this forum sees, its more of an advertisement; especially in view of the mature responses that followed. Anne, Chris and CRK generally are a class act, but so, evidently, is the forum population.

Greetings from a new customer... now re-assuming lurker status...

Hawk

I pretty much think that the word "CLASS" does come to mind after reading that...

And I along with others who would only lurk thank you, Reeves and Co. for this forum and the Class you bring to it!

Chris and Anne and the rest of the Chris Reeve gang are all class acts. I am very humbled to know them and be known by them.

To those who do not own a Chris Reeve knife I offer this analogy.

I am often asked why I drive a Corvette when I can get a Trans Am that is nearly as fast for less than half the price. My answer is simply this, "You have never owned a Corvette".

Anne,

I have been on the net since '93 and in various forums over the last 5 years. The internet is a two edged sword in some cases and it cuts both ways. I chose to hold the handle myself

You have the right to run your forum as you see fit and you have my blessings for your understanding of human nature. Thank you for hanging out with all the knife nuts here and the ocasional Squirrel.

Mike,

Maybe someday you'll own a 911... and know the error of your ways!

Anne,

The way you handled this issue has only increased the respect I have for you and Chris. As the owner of a Large Sebenza and a Mountaineer II, I am already very impressed with the quality of your products. After reading your post above, I am even more impressed with your values and priorities.

Thank you for providing a model of how manufacturers should handle this type of situation!

Anne,

I agree with Mr. Jenkins, your professionalism is to be commended. In todays society there always seems to be the few that have to throw the wrench in because of their so called "rightous ways". Don't let it get to you or Chris. I guess I would be a bit disturbed by this whole situation myself. Your past acheivements and your award should be enough to show your real colors.

I personally have never dealt with a more professional and committed knife company and will continue to enjoy your products and service par usual.

This is my first post on this forum.I have followed the situation over the last couple of weeks. One thing that keeps popping up is the idea that:"I wouldn't be surprised if CRK shut down this forum because of this."
Is it just me or does that seem like an extreme notion?I dont own any CRK products but I now plan to just from the responses to the threads in question.Lenny is happy.CRK has proven that they are a class act.The mystery of why the knife failed has been solved(thanks oxbubba). And CRK has a new customer-me

If anything the trial by internet has been more of an affirmation of CRK and their quality than a condemnation of them.Class always shines through.

Anne,

Despite the naysayers, I believe, and always have, that your supporters and admirers greatly outnumber the few detractors.

I have been a great admirer of your product since you and Bridget sent me my large Sebenza in 10/98, but even more importantly, I am a great admirer of you and your staff for the way in which you "walk the walk".

Thumbs up Anne! I just wish I had done the same when I got into a flame war a while ago. Great advice. I knew you would not do wrong by us.

Proud to be a Sebenza owner!

All the best
