Looking for a small med size fixed, have the ratmandu, love it, but want a smaller blade too. Not a fan of lanyard attachments or any ring on my handle. The overall shape of the Vex is what i like. Could anyone steer me to quite similar kin models, handle & blade shape & size, non coated?? Thanks

The Vex is one of my top favorite knives. They do become available once in a while. The originals were D2 and then SR101 on the later models.
You could call the shop and ask if one is laying around;)
Good luck with your search.
Al

Maybe as I said some help point me towards another Kin model with:
Flat grind
Non coated
blade length approx 3 1/2"
no lanyard like swamp rat or vex round ended handle
not over $300 or so
pics would be great! new to all things Busse, but then we all were at some time, back when we had money, right? lol

yeah secondary market is fine. I was looking at the game Wardens, and thought they might be a bit small. Am I wrong?

I love the game warden, but you wear an XL glove I would not get a game warden for something you are actually using. The Vex is a little hard to find but a great knife and if I were to EDC a fixed blade it would be a top contender for me. The Anniversary Mean Street AMS or Mean Street Ergo would also be a great EDC blade. Both of those are available in INFI or SR101. I personally prefer SR101 in a smaller user, it seems to hold an edge a little longer for me.

I will try to post a few pictures of all 4 of these knives together.

Edit: I layed out a few small Busse and Kin along with an Izula and Izula 2. When I was new to Busse I often relied on pictures like this one when learning about new knives. I threw the Izula's in there for comparison sake because they are commonly owned and a gateway drug to Busse.

From left to right:

Izula, Izula II, Swamp Warden, Busse Game Warden, Busse Game Warden, Busse Trail Scalpel, Busse Active Duty, Rodent Solution, Busse AMS, Busse Mean Steet Ergo, Vex SR101, Vex Custom Shop D2

yeah, I bought an LT wright patriot and boy, it would be big in a ten year olds hand!! like something from a dollhouse accessories. an Arno Bernard Squirel also, Absolutely stunning, but should have saved up for something bigger than 1/10th scale I guess.

i wear an XL glove. Question: What is the hole for under blade?? Thanks.

The hole in the front guard is Busse's company trademark, like Spyderco's hole in the blade. You can use it for whatever strikes your fancy...to run a guard, tie to a stick (probably not with a Game Warden) but it's main use is to identify a Busse as a Busse when there is no maker's mark on the blade or spine.

did not know that thanks! like the ez open hole on the Spyderco fixed blades!!

I like the game warden but find it a bit small. The vex is a great step up in size from the game warden

Here is a comparison between the game warden, active duty and the vex

Yeah, the Game Warden is a bit smaller. I have XXL sized hands, and they disappear.

If you want a rounded butt, you're going to be pretty limited for Buseekin.

Another Rat option (excellent, IMO) is the Rodent Solution. 3.5" blade, and generous (but a bit heavy) handle. Excellent ergos! It does have a lanyard hole, but the butt is nicely rounded (crowned) in that area, so its very unobtrusive. Unfortunately it was discontinued direct from Swamp Rat not too long ago, so again, secondary market only.

Swamp Warden is yet another option. No handle scales though and also secondary market. Both above mentioned options shown here:

Also maybe worth a mention is the Rodent Trail. Same handle as the Rodent Solution, but lacks the crowned spine and butt near the lanyard hole. More blade than the RS. Here's my custom version with choil (middle knife).

In case you're wondering, the bottom knife is a custom shop RS. Spear point with full convex grind.

According to the specs listed here and here, yes, smaller but not by much.

Vex:

BLADE LENGTH: 3.75"
OVERALL LENGTH: 8.25"
BLADE THICKNESS: Approx. .140"
WEIGHT: 5.25oz

Mini Vex:

BLADE LENGTH: 3.65"
OVERALL LENGTH: 7.65"
BLADE WIDTH: 1.25"
BLADE THICKNESS: Approx. .150"
