Is the Wicked Edge worth a try if I already own EP?

I currently have an edge pro, and have been getting very good results with it. I'm interested in the wicked edge and wondered what people who have owned both thought of the two?

I've bought a few knives that have been sharpened on the wicked edge, and while sharpness is on par with what I'm able to get on the edge pro, they seem to have a more even and cleaner edge than what I'm able to make.

Tried the edge pro first...for about a week before selling it and began shopping for a wicked edge.. the lack of a clamp and trying to work steels like s110v killed it for me... love my wicked edge now.

If you like perfectly even bevels without going nuts, then a clamped system is in order. Definitely worth a try. WE or KME. But keep the EP and even the Sharpmaker if you have one. They all have their place.

I use my EP more than my WEPS. I can have it set up, angles set, and be well underway before I would have the WEPS set up. I use the WEPS when I am willing to spend a long time making a perfect edge to show off.

I used an ep, it worked but was very messy and sometimes difficult to keep a correct angle. Just got my we today, i think i prefer it over the ep. I just hope the paddles last, their hella expensive to replace.

There is a learning curve to the EP. I wasn't good with mine for the first few... several... quite a few sharpenings. The results I get now are excellent. I sharpened a couple of knives today. I just didn't want to bother with the WEPS, so I went EP.. These were short (paring) knives, so the small knife attachment helps. I don't have any horse in this race, but just offer my thoughts to the OP.. Both are excellent systems for sure!

Good sharpening,
Dave

It is much easier to control your angle on a WE. Basically set it and forget it per knife. EP requires good muscle memory in holding a firm proper angle. That does take time. In the end, for me, every time I wanted to sharpen or re-profile it was just easier to deal with the WE.

I hated my EP and loved my WE. I found it much easier to use and got better results. YMMV. Personally, I went to a belt sharpener - quicker and easier than either of the others as long as you don't need to be absolutely precise about angles - plus I like a nice convex edge just fine.

I'm getting about 350-400 knives per set out of mine. They are very durable.

I got my WE after I already had my EP and now I don t used the EP at all. Better , more reproducible results with the WE.

I have just about any sharpening system available but I love the WE and if I could only keep one, it would be the WE.

I had an original EP but did not like it so I sold it again. I later bough the cheap Chinese Ruixin copy and I think it is better build to begin with, especially the large suction cup base makes it a lot more stable and a few tweaks make it even better. I have replaced the standard pivot arm with a ball joint rod end and added a drill stop collar for easy stone thickness adjustment. I also glued a Neodymium magnet under the table which holds the knife in place.

Not only that but for $70.- (in the US) you get 4 diamond stones, two of each grid so that is just $17,50 per stone which I would not call expensive at all.

This is how the original EP should have come. Very nice!
How did you come up with a rod for it?

Just depends on what you want... but I read this and think that if you're getting good results sharpness wise... maybe spend a bit of time on the aesthetics? No reason why an EP edge can't look as nice.

(Unless you're just wanting a new sharpener to play with... nothing wrong with that!) :D

Do you mean the vertical rod which holds the ball joint rod end? I tapped M8 threads to a piece of 8mm stainless steel rod. You could also take a partially threaded M8 bolt like for example an M8x200 and saw of the head. The angle markings on the rod are also made with the saw.

I use the original rod / stone holder that came with the Ruixin, the diameter of the rod is 8mm and it fits the ball joint perfectly.

That's awesome, a perfect fit. That ball setup you have is far superior to the one that is on the device. I don't know why he didn't include it in the first place. So at least that way it maybe would have been cloned better.
