Is there a “Mora Companion equivalent” for big blades?

Purely out of curiosity, as I have way more choppers than I realistically need. Are there any big blades out there that are fairly inexpensive yet still reliable?

Not sure what you consider "fairly inexpensive".

Cold Steel SRK with 6" of SK5 for $43 is the first one that comes to mind.
Ontario SP2 $42
Glock field knives ... there are 2 or 3 models IIRC .... $30ish
Buck 119 - 6" - $60

Ontario Old Hickory knives and Dexter Russell Green River knives deserve a mention too.

Tramontina machetes can be had for $8-12 and start at 12".

Back a few years ago, I bought my Gerber Strongarm in the low $40s. Great knife and great value at that price. Now they run $70 and I don't recommend it anymore.

The Condor Undertaker was a decent price for a woods romper a few years back . No idea what they want for them now. I thinned the edge out on a couple and they bite viciously now. 👍

Perhaps Schrade Leroy? Similar cost per lbs steel as a Mora and a decent chopper!
Pretty looking blade shape, but I’m hesitant to have 8cr for a chopper blade. It’s decent for inexpensive folders, but I’d rather have a carbon steel for hard use blades. I’ve seen videos online of the SCHF45 breaking.

I don’t own one, but I did see a video with a big tattooed guy working hard with a Chipaway chopper, it seemed decent for the low price.

I think of Old Hickory and Dexter-Russell Green River as American Moras. Old Hickory makes butcher knives in 7”, 10”, and 14”, plus a nifty 6” belt knife with sheath. Since I bought one, the price has gone up to $22. The 5” Green River fish knife is one of my favorite knives, but you asked about big knives.

The Cold Steel Bushman is another low-cost option.

For $150, you have quite a bit more leeway. Lots of fairly inexpensive knives, but out of the “buy one for every vehicle” category. Condors and Beckers are in easy range, but the first knife I would think of is the Varusteleka Skrama. With the Skrama, you won’t need another big knife at any price, but since you are presumably another knife knut, you will want one.. for me, the path of least resistance was the Becker BK9, and I am glad I bought it.

HI knives represent a great value for user choppers! Go with a villager finish and you can get two in your price range!!

I have a pretty good variety.....and IMO. The best production blade I've seen that is both a cutter, and a chopper is the Browning Comp. Cutter. They are out of production now, unfortunately.... But they pop up.

A gentleman here on BF sold three of his from his collection last week. Whoever bought them, got a Super Deal!!!
Mine is an ugly beater I got lured into buying here.....I would of preferred to have bought a nicer looking one..... But, MAN is it Awesome!
Best blade I've used.
I've got Siegle's, L.T. Wright's, Becker's, SYKCO's, Esee's, Bark River's, Customs.?..etc. etc. Some cost 3-4 times as much......

And that Browning Crowell-Barker Comp Knife Tops them in Soooooo many ways.

Yeah others have already mentioned Old Hickory, I’d check out the 14” butcher knife, it can be had for like 17 bucks which is less than a dollar per inch of overall length
