Is there a better $25 knife on the planet than the RAT-1

I've seen a lot of great reviews on this knife but I'd never actually handled one until yesterday.

WOW!

It is an unbelievablely impressive knife for $25. The materials, stout design and overall construction would probably be a bargain at twice the price.

IMO, the RAT-1 absolutely slays the cheaper to mid range Sypdercos and Kershaws. Razor sharp, nice blade shape and grind, full liners, smooth deployment, solid lock up...and I'll take AUS-8 over 9cr13MovC91v3CO1McvMO93r any day.

I'm going to buy one today. I don't see it replacing my 710, Mini Grip or Mini SOCOM Elite any time soon but it's too good a knife not to buy for $25.:D

i think it's made in taiwan.

The Aitor Castor is right at $25, made in Spain and is an awesome knife. More traditional styled, though.

Don't have a RAT 1 yet... Another good knife within your price range is the Ka-Bar Dozier folder. It's AUS8 too.

I have had my Rat1 for close to 3 months now and am still impressed by it.
The steel comes razor sharp and can be maintained very easily and the open back design makes for easy cleaning when I get dirt and dust in my pockets during the work day.

For what it sells for this is a great bargain.
I do want to see how the new ESEE folder compares with the Rat too.

Great knife for the $ but slays some of the inexpensive spydercos? Hmmm, cant say I agree with that but then again I love the hole :D

My fav knife for the $ is a kershaw oso sweet and sak alox

Rat 1 is an excellent choice for under $35.00, very good F/F and their AUS8 is pretty good but dulls faster than my Cold Steel's in AUS8. I look at it as a great camping/utility knife when coupled with a sharpener while out in the field.

Opinel, in either stainless or carbon would b my choice.

Two would put you right there pricewise.

I could actually get 2 or 3 Sanrenmu/Enlan knives for the same price, they wouldn't be the same size but with basically the same steel.
I myself go to them for super budget knives instead of mainstream manufacturers because the brand name tends to add a bunch o bucks to the price tag.

There are a lot of knives to choose from and Kershaw makes some great ones in that price range with 8cr13mov steel and they hold up as even though produced overseas Kershaw has great quality control. To me it is hard to say and in the end it comes down to the individual and what they think of all the competitive offerings. Ontario makes some great knives and for 25$ you can not go wrong with the Rat-1

I have both a RAT I and II and I've been very impressed by both. I dunno if they're the best on the planet in their price range but they're certainly up high on the list.

I'm looking for a rat 1, and can't find them for less than $30 shipped.
Where did you find one for $25 ?

I've never tried a Rat 1, but I've heard plenty of good things about it. Your enthusiasm definitely makes it more appealing to me. That being said, I've had more than a few budget Kershaws, and they've all performed with flying colors.

I've carried a rat 1 for a while and it is an exceptional buy at that price point. I recently got a rat 2 and I must say the rat 1 hasn't seen my pocket since.
