Is there a color difference between 303 ss and 316l ss?

316 SS is bad news. I have been using 303 for many years fir guards, etc. No problem drilling. I use 308L welding rod for pins, and they disappear in the 303.
I also frequently tap and thread with no problem..Hope that helps.
