Is there a doc in the house???

Sounds like a staph to me. Hopefully not MRSA, which is extremely serious. What antibiotics are you taking? I treated five cases of MRSA this football season. Vancomycin(IV), Bactrin (oral), and clyndomycin (oral) are the only ones I had success with.

Hi all,

I'm actually doing better today I think. I almost went back to the hospital last night though when I started spiking a fever. But it was a small one (stopped at 99.7) and only lasted about three hours.

I felt better this morning and the redness intensity had gone down and had stopped spreading. So the antibiotics (2 grams of Ceftriaxone IM... one shot Sat., one Sun and Amoxicillan orally) must have finally kicked in.

I've got to report to the nurses' clinic tomorrow for another check and possibly another shot of Ceftiaxone. The doc from Sunday thought it was going to take a couple of weeks of treatment to knock it out completely unless complications popped up.

So I'm doing better. Thanks for all the support, prayers and smoke.

I went back in for my checkup today. Redness wasn't as bad, pain was less and the swelling was down a bit. But the area was still red and warm and a bit swollen. The Wound Specialist wasn't happy with the progress of the elbow and said that if it wasn't completely back to normal by the end of my antibiotic course, she wanted me back in. If that happened, she was going to open up the elbow and clean it out and repack it...

That would require a LONG recovery. I guess the elbow is the worse place to get an injury... takes the longest to heal. If it goes that far, I'll have to go in daily for draining (or something like that)... but daily visits to the hospital. Not fun.... I'm hoping that things will be back to normal by the time my meds run out next week.

But overall I'm much better. No fever... pain less. The ABs are still kicking my butt... not much energy by about 10 in the a.m. But I'm pushing through it.

Again, thanks for the support. We'll see how I am next week.

Alan
