I have always admired a good doctors knife but I have never seen a 3 bladed doctors knife with a spatula. I was lucky enough to pick up this matching set of Stag & Pearl Fight'n Roosters the other day..

Do you have any doctors to share..

Very nice, Ralph.

I'm sure that Gus (who isn't a doctor but has stayed at a Holiday Inn Express) should be along with some of his at some point. ;)

WANT.

I've never seen a 3-blade Doc before. Pretty cool.

I've only 2, a Case in vintage bone and a Queen in some of the nicest pearl I've ever seen. I'll see if the camera can get its color.

That is real nice! I've never owned a Doctor pattern before. I really like it. How thick is it?

That's the first one I have ever seen. That's what you could expect from Frank Buster. He wasn't bound by tradition when it came to designing blade configurations. He drew up what he, and a lot of other folks liked. Me being one. Cool knives !!
Greg

I had a Queen in Stagbone, with a spat.
It was very good.
I sent it back as I has ordered a pen blade instead of a spat.
Perhaps I should have kept it so I could spread peanut butter ???

On its way is a Queen Doctor in amber bone with a pen blade

I will try to post a picture tomorrow. I set out to buy a different doc knife for each month of the year.
I have 10 so far. I like the pattern, needless to say.

Uh oh; I have a few in my collection. These are some that have been photographed.

Here is about 100 years worth with the top left being the oldest.

A few form Wilfred Works. I have one more from Tony with a spatula blade that I have not shot yet.

Another one from Bill Ruple:

I spent years trying to talk someone into doing an honest to goodness capped / sealed bolster.
Joel Chamblin was the first that I know of:

Richard Rogers delivered one last year that also has a capped/sealed bolster that is also very nice.

I just packed up a few of these today to send to a maker for study.

Very nice knives one and all!

Sunburst,

I am a big fan of the vintage fight'n roosters and 'old cuz' help resurrect, and in some cases just made it up has he went along as Greg alluded too. He managed to assemble some very talented old cutlers to work his designs and in some cases brought a few old masters out of retirement to produce some very special knives of very high quality. Your two Doc knives are an example of this.

Rivit,

Your vintage German Doc knife shows a fine classic traditional design not to mention an outstanding example. Have you the actual date of that one there?

Bastid & Ed,

OoooWeeee what Dr. collections!! I would(and others perhaps as well) love to see some of the very oldest y'all have in your stashes!. Some good close ups if you have the time and energy. This is a pattern with quite a rich history with real life country Doctors at its roots.. Absolutely fascinating stuff them old pill crushers and medical improvisation and God knows what other mini-miracles they had to preform in the late 19th c & early 20th c, IMO.

I use to have a small covey of older Doc's, but alas, I traded them off a while back..:grumpy: But here is current but traditional design I held onto and edc once in awhile. I purchased this one from Case along with some other long tail CCC 's. Coupled with design I always liked the sweet color of the dark green Bone on this one.

One of these days, I'll break down and actually buy a camera.

(I am obvious a sick, sick man). :D.

While the Doctor knife pattern is not one of my favorites, there are certainly some dandies in this thread. My personal favorite is the one by Joel Chamblin that belongs to Gus. It reminds me of a vintage Keen Kutter:thumbup:

Just a very busy one, works 15 to 23 hrs a day for 7 days a week, then 23 days or so straight, either sick in head or stamina of a goat. :D Better find another Dr quick, I think your last one ran out on you and left all his knives with you.

Wow!!!! You folks sure do know how to call the good doctor when he's needed...Outstanding knives being shown here in colors that made me put on my sunglasses...:cool:

My favorite is that Pearl Ruple that looks like the pearl is moving and swirling...
