Is there a knife you hated but ended up loving?

On recent threads asking for opinions on Recurves and Black blades, both of which I gave a hearty thumbs down have come back to bite me in the butt.

My favorite knife lately is my recurved black bladed Outcast.

It happened innocently at first when I purchased a custom as a gift to myself for accomplishing a major life goal. I got it and it was not want I wanted at all. I immediately posted it for trade and got an offer for another custom. Again I was not what I wanted and posted that for a trade.

Then someone offered the Outcast. I looked at it and thought I would give it a try. When it came it felt great in my hand, decent sheath and great steel. It cut wood like a hot knife through butter. I was hooked.

I still don't prefer recurves or black blades but on this knife they work really really well.

i used to never like composite handles like micarta and i laughed at wharncliffe blades and then....well you know how it is

Spyderco Paramilitary. I had one a while ago and I didn't like the idea of having to always use the choil. After EDCing a Byrd Cara Cara I realized I used the choil way more often than the regular grip, so I bought another Para and it's been a favorite of my collection ever since.

Spyderco Military. I disliked large knives, didn't like liner locks, and thought it was ugly. It's still ugly, but after lots of use it's my fav knife.

Kershaw shallot--looked fugly for some reason, I dunno why. That is.. until I purchased a black damascus one...

Currently my dress pants EDC. And I have 3 others. ZDP, S110V, and rainbow.

Spyderco Ladybug3, stainless, with serrations.

I never liked small knives, serrated knives, or stainless handles. But my Ladybug has proven to be incredibly useful, especially around people that are more.. sensitive to a larger knife. I can have the thing out, cut something, and put it away without bothering anyone.
I still don't like serrations, but it's probably the best gift I've received in a long time.

The Rukus 610. Didn't like the look of the handle. Then I actually held one. Now its one of my favs.

Any spyderco in general. Thought they were ugly and weak ("plastic" handle) but now I love them and the frn handles are great!

I'm glad that I gave them a shot. :]

Spyderco's in general, I would not go near them because of their looks. But after handling a few, I have been converted to the true faith.

I totally hated my Spyderco Military. Found the knife too fragile, G-10 handle too cheap-ish and the liner lock too weak. After having it used for some months, the knife cuts extremely well, not fragile at all although I won't use it for heavy duties. The G-10 handle is very ergonomic and provides a good grip even in rainy weather. And the lock still works OK and had no problems with it yet. I just got my new Al Mar SERE black blade (great knife) and that will eventually replace my Military as my backup knife, but I must say that Military has proven to be damn fine knife.

Only thing I have a hard time with is sheathed knives. I love the knives in the sheath, but to carry them without is a pain because they have one for a reason but I always forget to put them on my belt and they sometimes get in the way. The only knife I love with a sheath is the Buck X-Tract because it can go horizontally on my belt, it stays out of the way. Anybody else feel this way? I wish I could carry my 110 or Victorinox Swisstool, I love them and they make me feel manly :-).

Guess I'm not the only who hated Spyderco. Their knives look ugly and are too pointy, and don't get me started with the opening hole. Now I'm a big fan of Spyderco (millie, para millie, manix, endura w/ wave), and guess what I EDC now... :)

Spyderco Native. I never hated Spydercos the way some people do, but I hated the Native, and now I'm lusting for one.

Striking really how many of us hated Spyderco once, only to fall in love later.

Spyderco is like Renée Zellweger. At first glance she is too fragile, thin and has this 'stupid blonde' look, but when you see her more often you actually start loving her. I was told she has brains too.

I was prepared to dislike my Spyderco Delica (in 1995) just from the photos but 7 or 8 Delicas later I can tell I was mistaken!

I never thought I'd like a Busse Active Duty then I happened into one and love it.

No, if they don't do it off the bat, they don't ever do it.
