While the C78 Native III is currently in production, I'm not sure there are many who would call it the "regular" Native. The "Regular" native is the Native 3. Those are the two current models out.

Think the OP's friend may be confused because the Native IV, which is only available in CF, shares the same C41 model number with the "original recipe" FRN Native. The FRN C41 is alive and well, but has not yet morphed into the Native IV configuration. It's also the one most of us would call the "regular" Native.

Yes, the FRN C41 Native is still in the lineup, can be had with a black handle in PE and CE, with a pink handle in PE, or with a black handle and black blade in PE. As ousanas suggested, it's the one most folks would consider to be the "regular" Native because it has been in continuous production since 1998 and, aside from blade steel and clip color, has not changed in any noticeable way. Compared to it the Native III is a relative newcomer which was added to the lineup in 2003.Is what you're calling the "FRN Native" currently in production? Perhaps you could share with us what makes it more "Regular" than the Native III.
