Is there a place for boot knife in these times?

I have used a CRTK Stiff Kiss attached upside down on the outside of my boots-left boot on the inside. It was very easy to retrieve because the handle was right there at the bottom of my pants. I quit carrying it for a few reasons. First, because I found I never really needed it. Second, I found that if I wasn't careful pulling it out it would cut my boot. Third and most importantly, I am sure it was probably not legal and would be severely frowned upon by any LEO. YMMV.

I clip a boot knife to the inside of one of my motorcycle boots almost every time I ride. It's several years old. It's the one that says "Design by R. H. Loveless" on the blade. I've never cut anything with it and it's as sharp today as the day I removed it from the box. I've had it for several years and it is a double edged, fixed blade. It's called a Gerber Guardian and has a blade that's just under three inches long. Are you telling me that now ths knife is illegal??

Will, from what I could find about KY law from a quick web search, a "concealed deadly weapon" includes any knife other than an ordinary pocket knife or hunting knife. (Why do they say "ordinary" pocket knife? What kind of pocket knife is/isn't "ordinary"?) It is illegal to carry a concealed deadly weapon without a CCW. So, if I were you, I wouldn't conceal that boot knife unless you have a CCW (if you do, it seems you can carry whatever you want). I don't know if Luisville has more restrictive laws. If you are concerned with staying legal, you should research all relevant laws thoroughly, as I could easily have missed something.

I know that in CA, one could carry a boot knife as long as it's not concealed. Clipped w/the sheath outside the boot would not be concealed. Clipped inside the boot with only the handle and clip exposed is, I believe, a grey area upon which I would not want to bet my freedom on a regular basis.

For everyone else who's not sure, look up the laws for your state and city (they should all be available on the web somewhere). You may be surprised by what they are.

On the topic of boot knives, I think they're a great idea. My boots are a bit too high to be ideal for boot knife carry, though I do clip a folder in my boot sometimes (usually BM 350).
