So I have been looking for a nice gift knife. Was going to get a sage cf but then I saw the manix 2 . Made in usa and not a liner lock. So is there another spyderco that is like the manix2 but a 2.9" blade?

Needs to lock. Sage 3 is out of my price range. Want to be <$110. But I could go to 120 if there were a black handle. Sage 3 is there?

Sage 3 can be had for less than $110.
The Sage series are great knives. The Sage 1 is beautiful and liner locks are good locks. They're simple as well.

But I would say pick up a Sage 3 if you're looking for a different lock type.

Might even check out the first Paramilitary. But big knives aren't always a bad thing. I happen to love my big knives and use them daily.

+1 on the Native 5. However, it has a back-lock (one of the best out there in my opinion), instead of the ball bearing lock.

Native was my gateway into Spyderco. I fully recommend the 4th generation, you'll save moola, and have a great blade made in USA, Earth.

Yes, blue only. Are you looking for a smallish Spyderco with a ball bearing lock in particular, in black only?

Well its a vest man gift. I was thinking the cf sage but the made in Taiwan really turns me off. Groomsman is getting a bm bone collector in walnut. So a made in Taiwan is going to look bad next to it. The guy is not a knife collector so I thought a cf handle or all black blade and g10 would look classy. All black native or something. Other idea is an all black benchmade 530 .and he probably won't use a knife as an edc if its over 3"

Kershaw Speedform II
Native 5

I can speak for those 2 personally since i have/had them. I know a Taiwanese-made knife brings with it a negative connotation, but not so much in the case of Spyderco. Fit and finish of their Taichung knives easily rivals that of the Golden ones, and allows them to offer premium materials for a much lower cost. Examples are the Gayle Bradley, Sage 2, and the Techno. I know it's hard to get past, and i admit that i avoided the Taiwanese knives for a while until i got the GB. I do understand that it's a gift, and someone who isn't into knives might not appreciate the difference as much.

Sal said himself it isn't any less expensive but he uses that factory for additional capacity, and pretty much everybody agrees their fit and finish is outstanding.

I think a Caly3 would be good if you'd like black G10 or carbon fiber. VG10 is great for non-enthusiasts. I would hesitate to give ZDP-189 to some people, unless I knew they wouldn't be that hard on it.

Ok all black manix 2 plain edge for best man. Now should I get Groomsman the same in non coated blade or get the bone collector ? Or a native maybe?

Dude, I'll be in your wedding! Seriously, the Native is a nice knife, but I like my Manix better.

I'd honestly suggest getting all the same knives but, then again you probably know the men well enough to tell what they'd appreciate more. And DO NOT let the "Taiwan" line of SPydercos turn you off, they are arguably the best Spydies out there.. Extremely high quality in every single way and its all USA made materials anyway!! Personally, I'd choose the bone collector over the Native, but either way, I'm sure everyone will be more than happy with whatever you choose. They're all great knives.

Looks like you have have already made up your mind but I will make a suggestion anyway.

The Spyderco Chaparral has a blade about that size, carbon fiber handles, and looks a lot like a mini Sage.

Yes it looks beautiful. i like the little rectangular cut out where the lock back release is. But it is a Taiwan knife. rather it say USA on both knives. or i could get a sage and another Taiwan so they both say Taiwan..lol

Really, I never got all of the negativity that is pointed towards the Taiwan made knives. I happen to have a Spyderco Chokwe - made in Taiwan. It is better than most USA made knives I have owned. It rivals many knives and has come out on top no problem. It's a beautiful knife and perfect in every way. People say "Oh it's made in Taiwan". My reaction is "So?" It's a great knife and I would gladly put it beside a USA made Spyderco for a fit and finish contest. :D

But... if we need to go the USA route.. here's another vote for the Native.
