Is there a way to tell which Wal-Marts have Natives?

The thread title says it all really.

Other than calling them?

I remember originally I think Sal said something like 1/3rd of Wal-Marts were going to stock them or something. Has that number increased at all? I have called a few local ones and the people don't have any idea what I'm talking about when I ask about a Spyderco Native. Do you think that I should stop in instead to see?

What has been the general experience from people that have bought them from Wal-Mart? Were they sitting in the display case so you could see them? Were they in the typical Spyderco gray box or are they clam-packed?

Thanks.

I think the fastest way to find out would be to make a call to your local store. I was just at my local Wal-Mart and say that they had the Native for sale. At the sporting goods counter they have a poster showing pictures of the knives that are for sale. The Native was on there. They keep the knives behind the counter, so you'd have to ask to see one to know whether they are in boxes or clam packs. I'd didn't ask to see one, but I'm guessing they might be in clam packs.

Most of the super Walmarts (blech) have them, but I found that a regular Walmart in the town of BelAir south of me had them too. The Walmarts in PA had them at 43 bucks, the one in MD had them at 38 bucks.

If you ask for a Native chances are they'll have no idea what your talking about. Use their knife number system. I think the Native is number 60.

I've looked at 2 super Walmarts near me and not seen them. Plenty of Bucks, a few Kershaws and SAKs and a few other things, but no Spydies.

I all ways like to just go look at Walmart. You never know what knife they might be closing out at a good price.

My local Walmart switched from having their knives in a display case in the sporting goods counter, to having the knives hanging in an isle in clam packs...

They had all of the boxed knives on clearance, including 2 Spyderco Natives for only 29.95!

Unfortunately, I got there too late and there were none left.

Now they don't stock any Spydercos or any of the AO Kershaws they used to have.:thumbdn:

Funny this should come up. I've been interested in the Native for a few weeks but nobody near me carries them. I've called plenty of walmarts in eastern PA and in NJ and aside from the fact that it's nearly impossible to actually speak to anyone in the sporting goods dept and I've wasted half a lifetime on hold, none of the WM in a 50 mile area I called have them. It would be great to actually see/hold both the older and newer native III models to make the right decision.

On the off chance that someone living reasonably near to you has found one locally, posting where you live "might" allow them to share that info. Site to store is probably the easiest option though.

It's a tricky endeavor, because the walmarts I've been to didn't know what Spyderco or a Native was. I didn't know the knife number. I just had to have them look several times before it appeared...don't give up on first no if it sounds like they're just talking about any knife. Have to make sure they know what a native is.
