Is there an equivalent of the CRKT Quill with better quality?

Just thought it might help if I threw up a pic of the knife in question.

Guess I shoulda known better than to trust that big river site to have the right knife shown.
That is not the knife I saw.

FWIW, AG Russell has something quite similar, minus the coke bottle center swell. They call it the "Agent's Office Knife". Unfortunately, the same steel and also made in China. However, it does have a lockback, and the F&F will probably be better than CRKT. At least that seems to be the case in my limited experience with the few samples I have of each brand. They run between $75 - $115 depending on the scales. Cheaper than the custom route; Worth twice the price???

The AG Russell version of that knife I have has an ATS-34 steel blade in it, and stag covers. It's a pretty cool little lock back.

Found this...really close...let's see if I can attach the photos correctly. Its the S&M medium coke bottle from 2013.

If it’s not available from a BF dealer, Sooner State Knives is the next best thing.
Good to know thank you...I don't have any experience with them until now. I have a pretty decent list of dealers but not sure where to find a list of BF affiliated dealers?

To the admin who deleted my post...my apologies that was a newbie mistake. I didn't know they weren't a BF dealer. I have been educated.

waverave, I hope you don't mind me using your thread to post my latest acquisition. Your CRKT caught my eye and at the price I figured it was worth it to find out if I liked the knife.

So far so good. Fit & finish on my example is pretty good and much to my surprise, the blade rests dead center when closed. It has a half stop and the pull is relatively firm at about an 8 on the pull scale.

I like knives in this size range and I'm happy with this little bugger. It's a unique addition to my herd and although you posted because you were looking for something different, I'm grateful for your post as I had never seen these before.

Nice! I'm glad yours has a good f&f and that I was able to introduce something new :) It is a nice looking knife.

What is that scale material?

According to their website, the scales are black bone and SS bolsters with a 8Cr13MoV blade.

I got the S&M today and it is a lot nicer than I thought it was going to be. I figured I would post some photos and wrap this thread up.
The knife is 3.5" closed with a 2.75" blade. This one is NIB (couldn't tell from the store photo but it has some serious luster to it). As far as I can tell, the f&f is great but the pull on it is probably like an 8 or a 9...super firm. Hopefully that is something I can work out a little bit.
All in all...I think this is about as close I can get to what I was looking for without asking someone to make a custom build for me. Thanks again for all your suggestions.

And I won't mention the shop again ever...but I can tell you they were kind enough to send me a pamphlet with my order that contains instructions on how to achieve salvation. Very thoughful :)

Huh, hard pull is not something that I associate with S&Ms. Then again my CRKT Quill has at least as good F&F as my Case (all modern) knives. At least the CRKT had even grinds.
I like the Quill as a knife in my group of Peanut sized knives, but there is more randomness & lower low end in CRKT than some other manufacturers. On the plus side the steel isn't worse than 420HC.

Yeah this one is a real nail breaker actually. I am hoping some use will break it in a little bit. Otherwise, I need to look into what I can do to loosen it up. I don't mind a firm pull but this is a little too firm.

I know this is an old thread but did you consider just buying a knife made by Ken or commissioning him to make you one?
