Between gerber and fiskars hatchets? I know that gerber is owned by fiskars, but is the fiskars stuff any better? I prefer the gerbers because of the little hollow in the handle to hold a knife or saw and I like the rubberized gator shaft. Of course if there is any difference in quality I'll get a fiskars.
Also, what size do you find the most practical for general camp chores?
I never realized how handy a hatchet was until I pulled the grind back on my cheapo one and put a hair popping edge on it. I want to upgrade to a better one and never heard anything bad about the fiskars exept for Morablades' broken shaft and everyone thought his was a dud.

Thanks.

I think the general rule of thumb for length is from finger tip to elbow.

I dont have either but the gerber one with the saw in it looks cool.

The 14 inch Gerber and Fiskars hatchets are identical in construction. I think the Gerber one even says "Finland" on it just like the Fiskars. The Gators I'm not so sure about. I think I remember reading that some or all of them were made in China. Don't quote me on that though, it's a pretty vague memory. The Fiskars hatchets are usually a good bit cheaper than the Gerbers but they don't come with the nylon belt sheath.
