Is there ONE feature that causes you to buy multiples?

Just wondering if you find yourself buying multiple knives because of ONE feature. Some feature that you are attracted to enough that you constantly want a new knife with that ONE feature?

It could be... Spydie hole, carbon fiber, AXIS lock, maybe FFG blade, Ti frame, INFI, or something else that just meshes with your style? Maybe your collection has a "theme", like you have an inordinate number of Spydercos, just because you love the style.

Pricing and/or exceptional value on really good stuff that I can give as presents to family members- i.e

Pink Kershaw DWO - for all the adult women in my family, still holding one(1) in reserve for youngest grand daughter to mature.

Opinel - for my good cook SIL s.

Best.

Ones that appeal to my particular tastes. Currently I'm into traditional-styled slipjoint knives. I have a few modern folders, but my new purchases are always traditionals.

I've not yet bought copies of a single knife but I inexplicably want more titanium.
I'm sure I will have more knives with that beautiful metal.

Folders I really like that are very limited and disco'd. Spyderco is really good for this aka sprint runs. Example: Caly 3.5 SuperBlue. I prefer to have at least two because it won't be produced again. Another example: Para2 20cp, I cannot get myself to use it because I only have one and I consider it as a grail for me.. Till I am able to secure another, It will remain in the safe.

If I was a rich man, I would have a backup for everything, after all, if I own a knife it means I like it. A little bit of OCD there.

I'd like to know JDavis aka John's answer. He buys quadruples of darn near everything.

Sure! Two come immediately to mind:

Benchmade's Axis lock. My favorite locking mechanism, by far... strength and speed!
Spyderco's FFG blade quality control. Every one I've touched comes wicked, wicked sharp and almost perfectly ground... the best slicers around.

Finally, I should add a third: Zero Tolerance's 'I dare you to abuse me' feature, which seems present on every ZT I've handled so far. ;)

Not because of one feature, but the overall package. I have multiples of the Spyderco Military. I am very fond of this knife just the way Sal designed it. The lock is perfect. The feel is perfect. The blade shape is perfect. The clip is perfect. I don't need it drilled with extra holes for tip up carry. Tip down only is perfect. I know that nothing lasts forever, and the Military will eventually evolve into some sort of bastard that I would not be thrilled with. So I got them while I can:)

I feel the exact same way, only in my case it's about the Benchmade 710. I have three of them, and if I see a good deal on another I'll probably buy it. Eventually I'll be sending at least one of them to someone, probably keyman (his work looks nice and at this point I bet he could do 710 scales in his sleep). My Military sits unused at the back of a drawer, incidentally.

I've grown fond enough of my Spyderco Southard to be on the hunt for a Southard AWT, and if the Spyderco is ever discontinued, or I saw one going cheap now, I'd probably buy another of those, goofy hole or not ;)

mine is a combination of two features. all my folders MUST have bearings and a flipper. And balisongs must either have bushings or bearings. The ones that dont are waiting to be converted.

Any one of these three things in a knife I like will usually result in a backup or 2 being purchased:

Ergos that fit me perfectly - (Boa, Mini Commander, Manix 2, Ratmandu)
A vibe that the platform will be discontinued or become harder to find- (Mini Skirmish, Meaners)
It glows in the dark or has GITD upgradeability- (Stayglow SAK's, Moonglow spydies, Kryptoglow)

A knife that I can switch the clip to carry on the left side.

Other than that, I'm open.

I'm a sucker for ZT's titanium framelocks and keep buying multiples, but lately i have gained an affinity for spyderco with a military, gayle bradley, pm2, manix 2, and lionspy. I can see myself buying another gayle bradley.

I'll buy more than one if I want variations of a knife I really like or if I use a knife so much that I want a spare for it. I get that the spare logic is overused but, really, do you think you're going to find a duplicate of your favorite knife in 30 years when you finally break or lose it?

For me it is not one feature but craftsmanship that keeps me buying new knives. Over the last couple years I have purchased a few knives from both William Henry and CRK. These knives are different in size, construction, materials, features, purpose, etc. But for me the craftsmanship on knives from both companies is terrific. I find myself drawn to the craftsmanship of these knives everyday when I decide which one to carry. My other knives have received very little pocket time since I got the WH/CRK knives. To me it's a plus that you can find different sizes/types and still get great craftsmanship.

PS - without wanting to start an argument.....for me it's a plus that both CRK and WH make their products in the US. This is not to say that good knives cannot and are not made elsewhere....it's just that "Made in the USA" is a plus for me.
