I got this knife a few days ago. No marks on it at all. I was told it is a Busse. Is it? Sorry for such bad pic's.

Does Busse still make this knife? I just love the "Micarta". Nice sheath also. I just love the complete knife. May make it my carry knife,

It is only available on the aftetmarket. The sheath is made by Dwayne of Armoralleather. Awesome setup!

Snakeskin? Is there more colors in this "Micarta"? How do I get the colors to show? Put oil on the "Micarta"? Or just leave it alone? It looks like it has never been marked by Busse. Why would Busse not put their mark on it??

It is "sterile" - unmarked, which is required in some military applications. It isn't uncommon at all for Busse knives.

Also, I think the snakeskin colors show best when the scales are dry and degreased with detergent. Oiling makes it a lot darker.

Some Busses are sterile, either by special request, limited runs, missed batch, etc. Besides, if it has a talon hole, it usually means it's a Busse so you can tell just by looking at it. Plus, it appears to be arctic white coating, if I was Busse, I wouldn't put my name on a blade that color either ;)

The snakesnin micarta is a collectors thing now, Busse claims they can't reproduce it. If I remember right it was made by accident, but my brain is pretty fried anymore.

IMO, snakeskin looks better dry, so if it was me, I wouldn't put any extra oil on it. But some like the damp look, so it's really preference

Welcome to Bladeforums!

It's a Busse, no worries, but several things about it are curious and make it unusual. Didn't the old ADs have smaller talon holes? Snakeskin suggests older knife, but the large holes look newer. Hard to tell from the pic if is glare on satin, or Arctic White coating. White was very rare for Busse back when, is this maybe a more recent show special made from a warranty blank?

Interesting knife and a very nice score for EDC.

I recognize that sheath! :) The knife, as before mentioned is a "snakeskin" micarta handled Active Duty. There were a few put out with the double cut bead blasted blade (looks like it from the pics, not sure). But it sure looks blasted.

If you have more questions please feel free to e-mail me armoralleather@yahoo.com I worked with a lot of those back in the day. :D Still have one of the three I once owned, one was sterile.

EDIT to add: Snakeskin is just the name given to that style of micarta, the layers tell the tale. So much color and interest with this one. Many have tried to duplicate it, including a few who were adamant that they could, well, you see what happened. None could. Its such an interesting pattern eh?

I have always gotten micarta to show colors best by scrubbing with a toothbrush and Dawn under hot water.
The AD is my favorite small Busse. You can still get them at shows from time to time. I got my grail AD at Blade last year.

Lovely first Busse!

That particular model is out of production, and the handle scales, as others have said, look to be Snakeskin which won't be reproduced by Busse.
