its so hard to tell. every 40 or so knives, i seem to find "something" in the steel that looks like it should not be there. a sqiggly line, a small darker gray patch., a whitish blotch. they all look different. very discouraging. if it makes you feel any better, i just had this happen 2 days ago. i call it " varicose veins" lol. at least it "looks" like cracks. i have never seen anything like it. it was not forged, or overheated during ht. even worse in addition it was SAN MAI steel, and it costs alot more than 1084 ! i think i am going to bolt it to a 4 foot 2x4 through the handle holes and see if i can spike it into my old ford tailgate to see what happens.![]()
Afaik did everything right, quenched in preheated parks 50.
What did you heat the Parks 50 to?
Room temp is supposed to be good for parks50
If you want to "Ditch it" I think I might know someone that would want it (wink wink, nudge nudge).
I could definitely agree that there might be some cause for concern on both knives.
Regarding Josh and the first photo, are you planning on bringing the finish back up at all?
