Recommendation? Is this a good Benchmade 940?

GroovyBro That's a fine looking specimen you have their and if it were mine I would be completely comfortable with it. I would be more concerned with off centering, Blade coating blemishes, or a gritty feeling action. Like another poster said edge angles can be off on most any knife ground by a human and it's probably more common than you would expect. That being said, enjoy your knife and use it like it's stolen.:thumbsup:
Unfortunately I returned the knife :( I bought it at Cabela’s and they only had the display model left. I’ll probably go to a dedicated knife shop or keep buying and returning on amazon until I get one with good centering and a better grind. I would have kept it if I trusted my knife sharpening skills more, but after thinking about it for awhile, I don’t think I’m good enough with the whetstone at the moment to fix it properly.

If I were you, I’d get a knife that was cheaper but with steel that’s not way softer than s30v and practice sharpening on that. If you can still get them, a mini or full sized griptilian in 154cm is a very good starting point. Not super soft but not difficult to sharpen either. That way you don’t feel like your destroying the edge on something super expensive and you get a nice beater knife as well

I have several mora knives and an Ontario Rat 1 in aus8 that I’ll practice with. Scandi grinds are really easy to sharpen in my experience. I was looking at the benchmade 940 because I was looking at getting a higher production knife to add to my collection

You might want to think about a Guided sharpening system in the future. I am the worst at sharpening on stones, I just cant seem to get a great edge and Iv'e messed up a knife or two trying so I broke down and got the KME system. It's amazingly simple to get perfect edges with confidence. It's the price of good knife but well worth the investment especially if you use your knives.

In my experience, the grind angles are always a little uneven. I’ve heard that this is due to the BM knives being hand sharpened, but IDK. I didn’t notice until I was looking very carefully, as I’m not too experienced with these things, and my eyes don’t see so well up close.
Anyway, it’s not ever been anything that affected the performance for me, and no issue visually. The design, form, and function of my BM knives always wins.

I have never experienced the Benchmade quality "problem". It is an internet myth. It's a matter of volume of production, if anything. BM customer service and QC has been stellar in my experience.
