Is this a good knife

Survivor,

Please don't interpret any of these posts as anyone coming down on you. You asked a good question, and most folks here have some pretty strong opinions. Except me.

I think both Normark and Rokjok really hit the nail on the head, there are much better knives out there. If this one just grabs you, and you gotta have it (been there, done that), buy it! But don't take it out in the woods, keep it in your drawer (no, not drawers), play with it, whatever, but get a knife that will serve you better in the woods.

I like my Cold Steel Recon Scout and SRK, but am looking at Fallkniven, Busse, and others with much salivating. That's one of the great things about being a knife knut, when you go camping, you actually sit there trying to decide which ones you are going to bring - sometimes for quite some time! Drives my wife nuts!

Normark, I like the way you think! Sure hope you don't go near any magnets...

You can buy lots of such knives on ebay for about ~$10. If you are just getting into knives I would actually recommend you buy something like this as using it will provide valuable experience and entertainment, and it only cost about the same about as seeing a movie anyway. They are pretty much the worst way to make a knife and you can learn a fair amount from trying to use it and see why it fails to be functional.

They will quite readily fall apart on heavy work as they have weak handle/tang joins and soft blades. The tips will bend readily digging in wood and you don't even need much lateral force to cause a complete blade fault. Heavy chopping can also cause a break at or in the tang and as well cause gross blade distortions because the steel is usually AISI 420 at about ~45 RC or worse and thus is very weak.

For an actual user blade, an entry level choice would be something like a short heavy duty machete from Barteaux (they make them in knife-like lengths). It is nothing fancy, but once you put a decent edge on it it will handle a variety of heavy knife tasks well.

Thank you for all the input I have seen many of the hollow handle things and how useless thay are but I hoped that if I pall $80 + I can get a reasonable knife. Yes my inner "Rambo" took over and I thought I get the knife as soon as thay have some in stock. There were many fine knives mentioned and choosing one is hard so what I decided is to hold on to my money and save up and get a good TOPS or Busse knifes probably, one of there larger once so it can be used fore coping tasks. As a meter of fact out of all the knives that people recommended I own Fallkniven A-1 and consider it to be a very good knife. One more time I thank everyone who responded
