Is this a good setup for the woods?

Good setup and a seriously nice knife!

Id dump the Swistool (too heavy and big) and stick with the SAK. The little maglite would also have to go and be replaced with a headlamp of some sorts. The Petzl Tikka Plus is a great headlamp, puts out 50 lumens for 55 hours and goes a whopping 140 hours on the economic setting. Plus, the main benefit of a headlamp is that it leaves both hands free for other tasks.

As long as the watch is waterproof then it should do just fine.

Now get out there and use that setup!

You could strap the spaceblanket onto the Altoids tin with a couple of "ranger" bands. A 55 gallon drum liner is also a good emergency shelter, but bulkier than a space blanket.

For a firestarter that fits in the Altoid tin, try this: an igniter for a Coleman lantern. It's this little brass doohickey that sparks like a Zippo, and when you unscrew the mounting bracket, it becomes this little L-shape thing.

I'd leave behind the SAK since you have the Swisstool, but that's just me.

I'd also replace the Mini Mag with a Fenix or a Quark using AA batteries.

^^Thanks for supplying the visual!

As for the Mini Maglite, I have a few still and they are fine but my best light is an Inova, which is much brighter and better on batteries. You can get one at Target.

I used to love Mini Mags, until I had too many incidents of intermittent performance (I use a light every day at work). I bought a Fenix on Rock6's advice and have been very pleased. I am interested in buying one of the new Quarks, though (increased lumens and great warranty).

I guess headlights are handy, just don't like wearing one on my head.

My dad used to have a headlamp and i really liked it. But i like packing minomal that i feel will get me by but wont be bulky. Belt stuff doesnt bother me, pocket stuff does though. Ill put the tin in my right rear and my light in my front left. Ill look into a firesteel though.

For an excellent minimal headlamp, have you tried the Petzl E-lite? I got one as a backup, but it is so nice I often use it as a primary light. When not in use, the light and its strap stow in a little plastic case about the size of two Bic lighters.

The e-Lite is an excellent piece of kit, i have one too. It should be part of every outdoor setup. Not only can it be used as a headlamp, it can also be clipped onto almost everything.

I wouldn't mind getting a head lamp. Or a holder for my flashlights lol. Do they make those? Can the lamp lighter wear out?

A water bottle, bladder, or canteen, plus some water purification tablets would round things out nicely.

IMO, the little silver space blankets are nearly useless. They are brittle and I've had them delaminate just sitting in my pack. The AMK Heat Sheet is vastly superior and absolutely worth the small space it taks up in a pocket or pouch.

I'll have to look into that heat sheet. I do carry two bottles of water and some food if it's hot out or i'm going on a long hike. When i go hiking through the woods to get to a fishing spot i frequent, i bring water for sure. The whole area is 100% sun.

I have a Nite Ize headstrap that holds a AA Mag or similar light. The lamp lighter doesn't wear out, but the flints do. It takes Zippo flints. a spare one stores in the tube.

Looks good.
I think it's a good idea to have everything you need to be able to make tea when in wild.

Is the fixed blade a JK?

I dont like sparklite firestarters, with just the wheel and flint. The sparks arent long enough or hot enough to light a fire on the ground, you have to keep the tinder in hand and light it, then put it down in 1/4 second before it burns you, then add tinder. with my mishmetal, i just make the fire, with a pjcb on the bottem, stand up, and strike it with the back of my bark river psk.

That Coleman lamp igniter throws a hell of a shower of sparks. Better than a firesteel, and easier to aim the sparks too.
