Is this a knockoff or just spyderco inspired?

I thought this might be a spyderco knockoff, but as everyone has pointed out it's actually just heavily inspired by spyderco features.

I have my answer now and nothing to add, so I'll just leave this so you guys can poke fun this.

I'm far from a Spider expert, but the only thing "Spiderco-ish" I see is the hole in the blade.
Did Spiderco ever make a square "knife" like that?

I'd guess "cheap mass produced no name advertising knife."

Clip style and clip screw orientation says Spyderco to me as well.

Also, far from being an expert. It’s just what my eyes saw right away (along with the hole).

Hole, grind, clip, and assembly are definitely looking straight off a Spyderco. I guess it's not a direct knockoff if Spyderco isn't making anything like that but damn did they take every styling cue they possibly could.

Spyderco has their Dog Tag series which are similar in concept but look different. The clip looks to be copied from Spyderco and a round opening hole is a Spyderco trade mark.

I don’t think it’s a copy, but the use of an opening hole makes it a no-go for me.

It looks like my 3 year old granddaughter grabbed a handful of crayons and drew a Spyderco

Similar to the SC01P "Spydercard", but not a direct copy. I don't have the ability to attach a picture, right now.

The hole is a unique feature of Spyderco (as Hackenslash mentioned), and furthermore, I believe you need to pay Sal some money to use it?

If so, then "Lucky Plaza" is violating intellectual property rights, but good luck getting a lawsuit to stick.

I would definetly say they took a lot from Spyderco. It’s practically identical to the para 3 at least in the circles areas. The grinds, the hole, the clip and screws.

I can point out a lot of design cues similar to a PM2. Round thumb hole, G10(?) texture, flush lanyard tube, inset liners, chamfered scales, the clip, the finger swell inside the grip section.

What's most egregious, I think, is that nub that PM2's, and other Spydercos, tend to have near the pivot, which leads into the finger choil.

The knife in question has this same nub in a similar spot, but doesn't have a finger choil, and thusly apparently has no reason to have such a feature other than to make the inner section of the grip look like that of a PM2.

I stumbled across this picture online and just had to know , they scream spyderco to me but as a traditionals guy I only know enough to recognize the famous Spyderco styling.

I don't want a discussion on counterfeits or anything, I just can't help but wonder if these are actually copying anything or not.

I'm stuck here, it's like when you cant remember who sings a song or the name of an actor. Even if you don't have much interest in the song or actor you just gotta know or it'll bug you.
The square shape adds enough to the design that i would consider it to be spyderco inspired rather than a knockoff, it definitely has a similar design aesthetic.

Nobody will buy that thinking it's a spyderco. Not branded as a spyderco either. Yes, it has a hole but it's different enough that nobody should get confused.

Other than stopping your fingers from slipping onto the blade.

Something like a Delica doesn't have a finger choil on the other side, and therfore doesn't have a round cutout on the other side of the "guard" for your finger to go.

I should've been more clear, though. The portion of the scale past the finger guard is concave, whereas it is more typical for it to be convex on a knife without a finger choil.

Looks like it's trying to be a square Spydercard-meets-PM2

Okay, so this isn't a direct copy and I have figured out exactly why I thought it was.

I have seen that spydercard before and the common pm2 before, and this really does look like a combination of the two.

The night shift in the Byrd factory is making that..."hey guys what if we just make a para 3 into a square, no one will notice" nice catch on that Richard.

That's been the joke for a long time with companies that have their knives made in China. What else do those factories do with the designs, tooling, etc.? It's "side hustle" on a different scale.

For instance, take a look at the Harnds Knight. Then look at the Kershaw Volt II. Notice anything about the handle? I wonder which Chinese company Kershaw hired to make their Volt II...

EDIT: To be fair, there are a lot of quality and trustworthy manufacturers in China. I'm just saying, this kind of thing happens and it's funny to see.
