Is this a new model Spyderco?

Still badass, but I think you’re kind of missing the point if you question the utility of the design. It’s supposed to look cool and unique.
Based on history, I think it's reasonable to expect that any Spyderco has a concept of use. At least I can't think of a single model that doesn't have one, either utterly obvious or explicitly stated, even if strange. But there's a first time for everything.

Can anyone name another Spyderco with a weird blade shape that hasn't been accompanied by a practical or historical explanation?

Thing looks like it would be good in the garden. I'd like to see it in some kind of green with an smaller orange element, maybe backspacer?

Neither do I but who ever heard of a sword w/a blunt tip?

FWIW, there's already the Tatanka at 5.05" (or even the Police at 4.42") that you could use as a pseudo-sword and still buy for a fraction of the price of the Subvert, which actually have pointy tips like a sword.

LOL! ;)

Yeah, but are those pocket swords orange? No. No, they are not.

Plenty of knives based on the customs that are not users from spyderco. Sure you could but not practically. This one just takes the cake.

Are you referring to the wax idea or changing/dyeing the scales?
If it is the latter, same reason you buy a 180,000 $ car and put 20k rims or a 10k wrap on it.
Aesthetics. Personally I dig the knife but orange is a bit too impractical for me. So I will just try and darken it. Dye costs me 15 bucks (Green and Black) while custom scales would be 80$+.
If dark green wont work I will use black, its an economical way to make it right. I get where you are coming from though, an expensive knife should ideally be just right out of the box.
I did consider waiting for a Sprint Run but I strongly suspect it will be less appealing in a different way (For example coated blade, or stonewashed) changing scale color is easier than refinishing a blade to me.
Just my two cents on my reasoning.

Both -- the wax and dye idea. Just 2 ways to ruin a perfectly good $300 knife to me but, like I said, it's your $ & your knife.

Knock yourself out! Just don't expect to be able to resell it after you're done w/it; at least not for the price you paid for it.

Haha, I won't be able to re-sell any of my knives for what I paid for it thanks to our European Prices, they are generally ~75 - 100$ above average US Prices. So I stopped concerning myself with resale the same time I got into the hobby. As for ruining it, worst case scenario it becomes a knife with black scales instead of orange, I wouldn't call that ruining it.

Just got it in.

Really not as bad as I thought. It doesn't bulge in the pants like the guy above said, it is a bit thick though. But I can fit my hand in my pocket without issues and pull keys or wallet out.

Its not too heavy for its size. Not light though.

Actions decent for not being worn in yet. It does have a detent that you have to get over before it drops... Making it a possible finger guillotine.

Blades not much thicker than my Ffg megladon.

The scales are not rounded on the bottom so it's a bit of a Hotspot. Maybe more than a bit. Custom scales or scale modifications may remedy that.

Will have to get some cutting in and more use to say more than my initial thoughts. I'm not super into it, but it's not bad. Definitely a fidget knife for the daring.

Found out the reason why some people are getting lock stick. It's cause they over lube the pivot from the factory and it gets on the lockbar and tang.

Clean off the lube and it goes away. I used zippo lighter fluid (acetone would work too), but keep it off the g10. If you apply oil, paint it on lightly with say a q tip or something of the sorts. Less is more because when its too much it will spin the excess off and onto the tang and cause lock stick.

People pay higher than NIB prices for mods all the time, other wear-and-tear notwithstanding.

When I first saw the knife I was hoping it would have a thinner blade stock. That shape with the high grind would have made a crazy good slicer for food prep with thinner stock. Oh well......I think it looks cool but the new wow factor would probably go away quick on this one.......for me. I just dont care for really big folders. That's why I sold a reate J.A.C.K. I would still have the JACK if it were a normal EDC size like XM-18 or something.

Took mine apart, wanted to see if it's gonna be a problem taking the scales off and "check under the hood" a bit, now I can see why it's one of Spydercos more expensive knives. A few observations:
- Stainless Washers between Titanium Liners and Bearings (The Washers are even Keyed/D-Shaped)
- The Pivot is Keyed/D-Shaped as well to keep it from spinning
- The Backspacer has three fixation points (two bolts with screws, one pin
- The G10 Scales have metal inserts to put them exacty where they need to go on the scales
- Ti Scales are Skeletonized
- Very easy to get back to center without play in any direction
- Minimal Improvement of the action after a little clean and fresh lube

I'm impressed.......sounds like they built this one very well.

That and the price probably reflects how many were made. I don't think it's going to be a popular model. That and it looks like 3d milling too.

A mini version would be idea. Something with even thinner blade stock for slicing.

Anyways my orange g10 is getting really dirty and I haven't done much with it besides flip it and carry it out last night. Wtf.
Scale color would be better with something else but yea.

I'm still getting hot spots where my pinky finger wraps. Plus it would be better if it were thinner at the back because pinkys are shorter.

I think they envisioned this as a collection piece from the start. I like it though. But I don't love it.

Frunkey did a video. Can't agree with everything he's said. I've already mentioned here above about the lock stick issue is purely induced by the lube only.

He was saying other people were having issues. b00n b00n did you have issues taking it apart ? Do you have any photos of it disassembled?
