marking in the blade

Spyderco
Golden, Colorado U.S.A
CMP 440V

other side, has a logo, and is marked 801 near the tip of the "horn"

According to the box, it was made 3/9/01 M

It is a discontinued model. And a trainer (red scales) was also available. It was made for multiple applications including trapping, blunt force striking and of course cutting. The Gunting was designed by martial practitioner Bram Frank. An instructional video accompanied the set.

The 801 number on the blade means it is a first run .
To some people the number may mean a liitle more $.
But it is still a nice knife ,with the bonus of being a first run model.
It is as rare as all guntings these days.
regards,SSB.

thanks nakano, and thanks again SBB!

imho all gunts are kinda scarce these days............

Generally, they're pretty sought after. As usual the PE ones in particular. IIRC, the S30V version is considered a little rarer, but the 440V PE is certainly not to be sneezed at.

Really hard to find knives. When you do find one you're definitely going to have to pay your share for one.

Yeah, I'd say all versions are pretty rare. Thanks for showing it off. Post more pics if you can.

Hate to tell you, it's worthless. . .send it to me for proper 'disposal'. . .:D

(Nice grab, BTW.)

I have one, the Gunting C68GP, the 440C plain edge version. It is not marked with any numbers like 801, but thanks R. Taylor for that info. I believe I was influenced to purchase one from reading posts by Frank Braum, the designer himself who posted on here years ago (2001-2003 ??) in support of his knife design being picked up by Spyerco. You might want to search the archives and Google.

It doesn't give too much information about the knife itself but a web page about Frank is here is here: http://www.usadojo.com/biographies/bram-frank.htm and includes contact information.
Of course there is the spyderco page: http://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details.php?product=25
this only lists the CPM-S30V version.

I have a PE Gunting S30V NIB Condition sitting in my safe. It wasn't comfortable to carry, so I never did.

For those that had one and decided to either sell or not EDC--is it because the "horn" or ramp makes it bulky and uncomfortable, or is it too heave, or was there another reason? I like the idea, it's interesting, too bad the knives are so hard to find.

The Gunting is a bulky knife that needs to be carried in a belt sheath, the clip is for hand indexing, the horne is what drew me to it, it is neat, and works very well.
