Hello everyone.
First, thank you for sharing so much of your collections here. It's been very interesting learning about all of the different knife companies and patterns.
Last week I picked up an auction lot just to learn, see some things in person and research the manufacturers. It's been fun.
A couple knives really stood out and this KA-BAR specifically hasn't left my pocket since cleaning it out and getting it back into functional condition.
It is old and was definitely carried for many years, but wow it is a nice knife. Three blades... Well... 2 1/2 blades now.
The primary blade is 1/8" thick. A nice heavy clip point. On the opposite side are a pen blade and what used to be a smaller clip point I think, but it's now a flathead screwdriver, lol. It is basically equal ended with a small swell in the center.. the heavy blade folds down in between the two smaller blades on the opposite side. It measures 3.5" closed. The primary blade is 2 3/8" but it has been slightly reprofiled because of a broken tip. The pen blade is 1 1/2".
This is the most perfect and functional knife pattern I've ever seen. The heavy blade is great for normal tasks or even a bit of abuse. The pen blade is like a little razor. Awesome.
Anyways... After spending quite a bit of time trying to figure out what this pattern is called I'm at a loss. I'd like to see about finding other knives like this or even new ones.
Does anyone know what this knife is called? If it is specific to KA-BAR can anyone recommend other patterns or makers with a similar heavy primary blade with a pen blade on the opposite side?
Thanks for any consideration and sorry for a nit so exciting thread about a worn old knife, but this is (was) a really good quality knife.
