Is This a Species of W-2?

No. W2 is a hypereutectoid (sp?) steel. That stuff is more like 1070 with a little bit of V added assuming it doesn't have any more alloying elements other than manganese.

10xx type of the japanese version has 0.1~0.2%v. if i remembered right there was a new law here in china a few years ago, ordered that all the plain carbon constructional steel produced in after 2005 should be added by 0.1%~0.2%v.

Not high enough Carbon to qualify as W2. W2 Carbon ranges from .85-1.3, I believe.

That would make good knives, though; and, I'd like to have some.
