Hi all,

Anyone know how to get this finish? Is it acid etching on steroids?

Hopefully a better picture.

Blades are made by Liontribe Designs.

How would one go about creating this finish?

Thanks

I think broomhead is right. forced patina with gun bluing and a bleach soak. I did a mora like that and it looks exactly the same.

That could just be a heavily fire scaled/decarbed surface. Forging with a thick layer of fire scale will create that kind of texture pretty quickly, the scale is hard and brittle even at forging temps, it breaks apart under the hammer and little flakes of it get driven into the surface. Repeated heat cycling will create a similar texture but takes longer.

I also get a finish like that by forging on a huge big chunk of granite I have. It was cut and made for a headstone but they screwed the writing up, but the backside was pretty darn flat. Maybe weighs in at 250 or more. It was given to me as a base for tooling leather but it was never finished quite smooth enough for that. So its been an anvil. Over the years it has been chewed up some and now produces a finish like that.
