If you purchase this knife (it is brand new from an authorized dealer of this brand) and upon opening the box saw this blemish in the stone wash finished titanium, would you ask for a refund or just keep it. Note...this knife was well over $500.00. I appreciate the opinions here on BF.

Depends. If I boiught it as a user, I'd ignore the mark, but if I bought it as a collector, I'd exchange it.

Inform the Dealer!
If Your opinion is You should have it replaced, then ask them to do that.
Listen to what they say.

If they aren't on Your side, return the knife for a refund and get the knife from another Dealer.

It's hard to tell how large of a spot that is, but it does catch the eye. I thought a stonewash finish would hide a mark better. It almost looks like a bead blast finish because it's so even. Definitely a bit of a bummer.

It's not really a big deal, but when you take into consideration the kind of coin you dropped for it, it definitely makes it a bigger deal. And is that a body screw or something? Seems a little jacked.

Exchange it.

For $500, it had better be perfect. No excuse for a blem like that to be sold at full price. If/when you try to resell that knife, you will take a serious hit in order to sell.

Cairo...the point is...he doesn't WANT to show you the full knife. His option. Doesn't relate to the basic question.

Return it, exchange it or get a refund. Don't lower your standards or your expectations.
Especially for $500+.
If you keep it, every time you handle or use it you will be reminded of that blemish.

For that kind of cash I'd exchange it. Always a bummer to have to give up an otherwise great new knife though.

The screw/pin/whatever-it-is looks banged up too.

Personally, I'd say screw it, use the hell out of it as long as it functions right. But it's your knife, do as you wish.

Exactly my thoughts.

If you keep it, every time you use it your eye will go straight to that spot and you'll think "that really pisses me off. I should have returned this thing".

You'll start to resent it, then you'll wind up hating it, and eventually selling it at a loss just to be rid of it.

And yes, that screw is buggered too.

Doesn't look like stonewash to me, looks like bead blast.

But yeah, I'd probably get that exchanged through the dealer or see if the manufacturer could do something for me if the dealer won't. Anyone making a $500 knife should stand behind their product and it should be flawless until you start using it.

I think each person would have to determine that for themselves. If you can live with it and feel its not worth going through the hassle of return/exchange then its ok. if not then you should contact the vendor.

I recently purchased a Large Sebenza and found it had a small blemish on the blade that you can only notice when sun light hits it. I determined its not a big deal to me. One day I may send it for spa treatment and ask them to fix it but I'm not worried about it.

For $500? No. I would not accept that, and would send it back. For a $40 Kershaw I'm going to eventually break while using it to pop the seal ring on a water-pump line while replacing the WP in my car? Wouldn't bat an eye.
