i just went to a military surplus place and got myself 2 ammo boxes. On my way out, I saw some knives. Emersons and Benchmade. I got 2 cellphone photos of the Emerson. Counterfeit or not? If not, what model? They're selling for 1,400 Pilipino Pesos.

looks like a fake.

here is a real one..

the thumbstud on the fake one is not black, the wave looks different, and also the emerson brand name is on a different spot. also, you can see that the screws in the handle are in different spots. the fake one has em in the middle of the handle while the real one has them near the top of handle.
compare it to the one you photographed...

Thats a fake for sure.

The model its trying to be is the Emerson Commander.

yes its a fake, FWIW the screws in the middle of the handle is wrong, the serrations are wrong, and the silver disc is incorrect, other than that a pretty good fake lol.

Exactly that one!!! hahaha they even have the counterfeit BMs!
It looks good under the glass but once you handle it, it feels 100 times cheaper than my cheap Leatherman knife.
What is misleading in the surplus place is that they have lots of genuine stuff mixed in with the counterfeits.

okay, after looking over the site....the place I went to this afternoon..has everything. hahaha

Gee, I wonder where they're getting 'em:

I picked up what appeared to be a sterile CQC7, except for the Heckler and Koch logo and the USP on the other side, black coated blade, I believe it was CE, many years ago, if it was real, it had to be a Benchmade model, although the G10 was a lot nicer than most Benchmade CQC's I've seen. Traded it many moons ago. Never been a big CQC series fan, I like the Commanders though.

Anyway, I was offered a trade on a CQC7 auto this weekend, had the Benchmade box etc. Other than the obvious dilemna, I didn't know that much about Emerson autos. Great auto BTW. I am not the greatest at spotting fakes, but I have seen a lot of Emerson examples.

Logo in a further back spot, silver thumb disc,(keep in mind removable parts can be replaced like discs and clips though) no grip grooves cut in the liner lock release area and thumb access is taken down too far compared to a real Emerson. It appears the screw placement is different on the handle scales also, and all indicate it to be a fake albeit a fairly good one. The serrations look odd to me also but the pics are not as clear as they need be. I'd like to see the clip side but its not necessary to determine its not authentic. I'd have to hold it side by side to a genuine but the primary grind does not seem to come up high enough either.

Not so sure...

I have a 2000 Commander to compare to.

It has the same three screw placement, does not have the wave patent number, and has logo placed in similar position on blade.

Additionally, it has no jimping on rear of handle.

I am sure mine a real Commander, as I am the original owner, and bought the knife still in box.

Not saying either way on this one, but real, older commanders do share features with the one pictured.

The knife shown above also has a box. I asked the person in the store again, she said its "made in China, American quality"
I played with it a bit, also with the BM they have. The action is far from smooth for brand new knives. The axis lock on their BM felt like it was going to pop out of the side of the hole.
Look at the knives under the glass in 1st photo. recognize them in the Chinese site???

1400 pesos = $35 no way an emerson cost only $35 and for a fake the price is too hight at divisoria you will found it for 200 pesos. Did you buy it around Recto ?

Found it in the military surplus area in Dau. I'm glad I didn't buy it. It was mixed in with some genuine Wenger and Leatherman multi tools.
I live near Divi and Recto. I don't think they have anything that is as nice as those in Dau.

probably at that price

however on the emerson website, it shows the commander BT, SF and SFS with similar screw placement (although the screws are cross head) and the BT also has the logo in a simmilar place. however the handle shape on your example looks wrong (too much lock exposed)

Thanks I will have a look at Dau.

I just read this thread because I was a little suspicious of mine but now, I'm certain it's real. It matches Bandogge's comments above.

Also, a magnet demonstrates that it has two titanium liners. I don't think they'd use titanium on a fake.

They were just different in 2000 than they are now.
Mine has the swedge on top of the blade too, which I like.

Compared to my brand new 2008 Super Commander, there are many things that are different (besides the size). They make 'em a little different now. But I think this 2000 model is a definite keeper. Never had one with the swedge before!

.

i dont know about yours but i dont think the one in the pic in post 1 is real, it looks to have torx screws and the thumb disc is satin, maybe i'm wrong but i dont think any of the older stuff had torx screws from EKI, in fact i know they did not, are those torx screws??

Did anyone see the "Benchmade" Skirmish copy about 10-12 pages in on the Chinese site? It is about the only semi-real looking "Benchmade" on their site. Very funny. They even rip off lower end manufacturers like Taylor Cutlery.
