Please look at the attached pics and let me know what you think. Supposedly it was obtained from a friend that had a friend that recieved this in service in afghanistan a couple of years ago. I have looked at different models of the commander bt and some look exactly like this and some dont.
I have compared to knife stores on the net and not on ebay. I know ebay has definite fakes. Just let me know and thanks for your help.

Look fake to me. The clip, screws, and logo are in the wrong spots to be real. The screws are the wrong type and the G10 looks off as does the serrations which don't appear accurate. Overall assessment? Total fake!

I concur. Things I noticed right off the bat were TORX screws, weird G-10 pattern, odd third screw placement, and bad jimping.

Looks Bogus because:
The cut out for the thumb disk is too generous/large.
The thumb disk is too thick.
The Emerson logo on the blade has no name designation (COMMANDER) OR "MADE IN USA" under the left side triangle.
2008 production Commanders had no fasteners in the center of the handle.
There is no US Pat. number for the Wave Feature under the right side triangle.
As I write this I have my 2009 Mini-Com in front of me and a 2008 Emerson Catalog with all three Commander versions pictured.
Other more expert Emerson owners may have more telling info, but I say it's a fake.
Sorry.

They have all said it already but that is a fake. I've owned 6 Emerson commanders and this one is a fake. Sorry to let you know that, but better to know now rather than after you purchase it. Stay away from it!

Thanks, I look harder next time, I have received a refund from the seller on ebay, I paid $30 so its not like I got hurt bad but now I figure its about a $10 knife, Actually in this case I dont even think the guy that had it new it was fake since he received it from someone else. Sometimes on ebay Ive been able to get a really good knife for little dollars. Alot of people just find a knife and know nothing about knives and list it in a poor fashion. Its in the mail and on the way back to the seller, Thanks !!!

In this life, you always get what you pay for. ;)

with the emersons you really have to know what to look for on the copies. many are pretty good.

eg, normally the domed female pivot screw is a giveaway, but some of the early ones had domed screws. the scale screw pattern has varied on the commander as well, so that is not always telling.

but torx are always a giveaway, emerson only uses phillips heads on the scale screws.

@MORIMOTOM- while mostly true, emerson uses torx on the HD models, Just want to set the record straight in case some find one, and passes up on a good deal.

Thanks
Ryan

Hey all, kinda new here. I was curious once I got mine too. It's my first Emerson (CQC-11 UTCOM) I'm damn sure it's a real emerson. I purchased it from GPknives.com which is pretty well known around these forums. gpknives said Satin Finish but the blade is painted silver? everything else looks legit i guess. by the way, does the liner lock come kinda stiff from emerson? all it needs to do is wear in?
thanks for your help and appreciate any feedback.

You have the older style "satin" finish. If I remember right its a silver ceramic coating, the newer knives have a true stonewash finish. Perfectly legit. Congrats on a nice knife!

that commander is totally fake, ive seen knives like that for sale in iraq its very fake if you bought it im sorry, if you didnt then dont.
