I have been looking at upgrading/replacing my current Rockwell hardness tester, and I have come across this one on the Bay, I am looking for input on whether or not this would be a good choice for testing blade hardness. Here is a link to it: http://www.ebay.com/itm/181492359492?ul_noapp=true

The seller sent me the following when I inquired if it was good for testing hardness of knife blades:

Hi,

Thank you for your message. You can use this item to measure the scale of hardness of a knife if its within the measuring range. Please refer to the image for the measurement range of this item. Please feel free to contact us if you have any question.

According to the best of my knowledge a rebound tester isn't the right choice of hardness tester for knife makers.

I think the most cost effective (not used) hardness tester is this kind: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Phr-2-S...347487?hash=item1c6557f51f:g:zGoAAOSw5cNYIRfX

I have one of these, it's been flawless so far. And it's very space conservative. :)

I know a couple of makers who have this one and are happy with it.

Listing says that seller does not ship to the U.S.....

The Griz model works well once set up properly. Replacement diamond
penetrators can be ordered on that auction site for 10-15$.

Yeah stay away from thoes type of testers for blades. Thy work good for thick material, I think thy say 1" thick is the minimum thickness to get an accurate reading. That's the reason the test blocks that come with thoes are so thick where others are thinner for normal HRC testers.
