you can sharpen ti, it just doesn't hold an edge for crap. That's pretty cheap for titanium, I wonder what alloy it is.

Titanium sucks for blades imo. Also what is the intended use of the knife? Are you really going to be in the jungle with no other tools? The saws on the back of any knife suck compared to an easy to cary camp saw that could easily be placed in any survival kit. The hollow handle easily gives way to a handle that actually feels good and is ergonomic and stash that stufff in a match holder. If you really need a "Survival knife" get a Chriss Reeves. They are machined from a single barstock and are "real" user knives with fit and finish to match. They would also become "scary sharp" compared to any titanium blade.

im not exactly planning to be dumped in the middle of no where with only a knife but I would like something that is robust enough to take the abuse of camping every weekend. Something that can cut ropes and tough branches but delicate enough to prepare food.

my other knife that i was looking at was either a spyderco kumo (it does not seem all that practical but its very nice looking) or a sog seal pup (I think im going with a PE)

You can find a better, name brand fixed blade for cheaper that would be a better survival tool.

All prices are approximations, you need to verify.

Ranger Knives $85+
Spyderco Street Beat, Temperance $110-$150 (try the H1 series folders for rust-proofivity)
Cold Steel SRK $50
Fallkniven S1, A1, A2 $100-$200
Scrap Yard Knives $90-$140
Ka-Bar $50+
Busse $200 - Infinity
Benchmade $80+

Also:
Fehrman Knives
Chris Reeve

Many people like CRKT,I've never had anything from them, but I own a ka-bar and a becker, and their both good knives. If your looking for something in the 4 inch range, i'd look for a Coldsteel master hunter, or a Fallkniven.

Any of the ontario fixed blades would be the way to go. Titanium I just dont have a high opinion of because of lack of edge holding.

I've taught survival classes Booth in the military and as a civilian, and I have an enormous knife collection. So after a lot of experimentation in a lot of climates my preference is for a bolo or machete and a stockman. the stockman is a lot handier at carving deadfall triggers and fish hocks, but when you need a big knife well thats what you need. The compromise is a good Bowie. Heavy enough for an Axe, wide enough for a paddle, sharp enough to shave with, and when you pick it up it should make you feel good.

For production fixed blade knives you can't go wrong with Bark River. They make outstanding knives at good prices.Very sturdy and great slicers.:D

Don't get the First Strike for any sort of utility purpose. I'd stay away from cordwrap handles in general for users, they're not as comfortable as slab handles, and you can find another way to bring along some 550 (plus you can't use the cord if it's been epoxied in place)

ahh i have done some research and does anyone have a Cold Steel SRK or recon tanto? which one is better?

Srk, but its sometime accused of being a sharpend pry bar, I dont have one, but was going to get one.

well, it means it has litle cutting ability, which is what you want most from a knife. So, It means if you want a sharpend prybar its good, but if you want a strong knife with cutting ability, its not good.

If you dont mind reprofiling the edge, it would make for a good knife, And this isnt to say its a horrible knife either, it will cut, but not as good as other knives, which is obvious in a sense but. there are better knives for the price. Like if you can find a BK7. But what size range are you looking for?

oh yea forgot about that! i would like something that would be able to carry around the back around the belt area. If its easier to conceal the better, I was thinking somethin about 6 inches? 7? And i want this knife to be able to cut like crazy and be very strong.

edit: I really appreciate you guys helping me out

So let me get this straight.
You want a 6-7", easily concealable knife that is strong enough to use as a prybar and cuts like crazy to use as a survival knife ???? AND you prefer a tanto blade????

A number of these attributes seem mutually exclusive to me.
