is this knife junk?

Haven't handled a limited edition, but I just sold my Gerber Mark II, which made me very unhappy. I think they're a great knife, but I don't have any field experience like some guys here.

The Gerber MK II was carried (and treasured ) by soldiers in Viet Nam.
I myself carried a Gerber Command II
(since discontinued :() during my service time in the Army. As for if it's made in Taiwan, it really doesn't matter. A good knife is a good knife is a good knife. We're looking at the design, and IMO (if
you own one) got a good deal.In this capitalist society of ours, people spend $100 on a cigar that's
"up in smoke" in a matter of minutes! One man's "junk" is another man's "treasure". But the MK II is NO JUNK!

AET ;)

lachine, the Gerber Mark II listed on that page is a Limited Edition knife. Meaning that Gerber is only producing a small number of them, then stopping production. It's a good knife.:) My Brother bought a standard edition before it was discontinued a few years ago. Wish I had gotten one when he did. Like I said before, it's a good knife.

uhm, allen
the old CS Kobuns that were made in Japan are of a consistently higher grade than those made in Taiwan
i suspect it's due to the heat treatment rather than the steel
that said and done, it's still a good knife
just not quite as equal as the first generation

That one is not worth money, considering you can find an older one with little to no use in the same style for way less one ebay! The only limted edition that was nice was the first 35th that came out...the one with the wasp blade and the gray handle! That is a piece I'm still trying to get...I'm a big gerber Mark II and Mark I guy. I have spent alot of cash on so many different Mark I's and II's. I have Cutlery Shoppe special run that I paid a good price for.

That’s the Limited Edition 1500 made, each has unique serial number, made of 154cm steel, has a rough textured grip "cats tongue" is what they call it. The handle is also metal. Comes with a very nice sheath, but the knife is a collectable I doubt anyone would want to use it. Not much difference between it and the ones they discontinued a few years ago. People loved the MKII we still get a lot of calls for them at the store, I never saw why Gerber quit making them. Nice knife for its intended purpose. That ltd edition is double edged to cool nice with history.

(Sigh) Very true and unfortunate that, as in any hobby, people generalize and don't consider knives based on individual merit. I'd ask the "nay sayers" why they consider it junk?

I bet you if that same knife had "Benchmade" written on it, people would say it was great.

Many people also forget that Gerber has a longer history in the knife biz than Spyderco, SOG, Benchmade, et al. They paved the way for many of these newer companies which enjoy a bigger following.

Gerber may not be as exotic as their competitors but they make decent stuff for the money IMO.

I have two MkII's, and am quite happy with them both. One regular bright blade, one black, both mint. I think they're great knives, and fit nicley in my collection. -- Charles

The reason why Gerber stopped making the Mark II's and I's, Command I's and II's, and the Guadian I's and II's is because when they got bought out the new company decided they weren't PC. Which sucks because they are good knives and when you could get them they were cheap! Now the cheapest is over $100! I found a guy in California a few months ago who had 3 Mark I's left in his store...when I asked how much he wanted he said $35 a piece...hearing that I sh!t myself and bought what he had left. Then I sold two on Ebay for over $100. lol;)

OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i have that knife sitting in my knife container and i didnt know what it was, thanks
