Is this knife ok for an EDC? (for a leo)

Welcome to the forum. The Recon 1 is a fine knife, but it's a little heavier than I generally prefer for edc. Personally I'd go with the Endura.

Policy is important, although I didn't know there are Dept's that don't allow serrations (I'm in the training Dept). Usually you won't be allowed an auto or FB, but you may, it just depends on your Dept's policy.

I've got a lot of hippies around me so you'd be surprised at some of the stuff thats been put into effect temporary or permanently due to them.

All in all its different strokes for different folks. Everyone has a preference on what type of knife they like and don't and what grind they like and don't and what brand, material, handles...etc...etc...

I used a recon clip point part. Ser. for about 5 years on duty.
A good all around knife. No complaints.

Not a leo.

I have an older Recon1 with the plain edge and tanto point. Many years of use on it, still strong and tight lock up. It has the older plastic handles, so the new version with G10 is stronger.

The tip on the tanto will be very strong. I have a friend forced a car door lock, literally put the tip in, leaned all his weight against it and turned it till the lock popped. Another time, he was again locked out of his car up on the mountain in the snow, and actually pried the door panel open enough to get his hand in and open it. no lock failure, no tip breakage. I just sharpened it up for him.

They are strong, and not too pricey. The blade geometry will be thicker than a few mentioned, but mine cuts great. I put a convex edge on it, and have rounded out the tanto grind a bit with sharpening it over the years.

I have heard that the newer versions have a bit sticker locking mechanism, than the older ones.

Not an LEO.

I think the Recon 1 would do the job. However, I have read over the years more problems with it's lock than the comparable Axis lock by Benchmade. Cold Steel pays royalties to Benchmade use their Ultra lock which is based on the Axis lock design. That being said, I prefer the following knives:

Spyderco Endura Wave
Benchmade Griptilian

The Griptilian does have a tanto version if you prefer them. Both knives are in the same price range as the Recon 1. Again, the Recon 1 should do just fine.

my old partner bought one, years ago. it's a chunky knife, but worked great. actually seemed easier to open than my 710 due to the stud being more pronounced. he's really happy with his, been carrying the same knife for 5-6 years now. you might decide to get somethingelse, later, but i really doubt you'd regret buying the Recon 1.

my condolences to any of y'all who's admin restricts your choices in equipment. that sux :( things are different, here. my Sgt. used to keep an AK in his patrol car.... until i told him i wanted it back :D

edit to add - the ONLY use i have ever found for the serrations is roughing up the tip of a cue stick, they work GREAT for that.
