Is this motor TEFC??

I'm curious.................... what is the difference between TEFC and drip-proof?

TEFC is Totally Enclosed Fin Cooled or Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled. depending on which sales brochure you're reading. they can be run in environments where airborne particles can be sucked into the motor. in a TEFC the motor rotors and windings are all wrapped in a closed and sealed package complete with sealed shaft bearing like a marine prop bearing,, with heatsink fans on the inner casing and an outer caseing to direct air close to the fins. A fan blows air over the heatsink casing to carry away the heat.

Drip Proof casings are open motors, with the rotors and windings exposed to any airborne particles that may be carried on the airflow, but have baffles and covers over the vents, shaped so if water or other liquids drip on them, they will run down and drip off.

When grinding, look at the blade getting ground down, and think of what would happen if a constant flow of abrasive dust was whooshing through the motor abrading the insulation around the windings...
