Is this normal for the Native?

I've been practicing opening and closing the Native I just bought. I noticed the blade was getting dull in a small area about 1/2 inch from the blade bottom. Upon closer inspection, I realized that area of the blade was hitting the locking metal when I closed the knife, and it actually cut into the metal. Does anyone else see this? Am I closing the knife too hard? I am wondering if it's just my knife or it's a general problem.

My fiancee's Meerkat had the same problem with hitting the back spacer and flattening the blade. Sent the knife in and 3 months later got one back that did not have the problem.
