Is this normal

Do you have a loupe or one of the inexpensive digital microscopes? I’m curious to see the edge after you cut the paracord.
 
Especially if you use compound on the strop, it will convex your edge. The ceramic will not do that. If your goal is to have a curved edge, that's fine.
Yes; that's the point in strops loaded with some sort of compound.
If you want to remove the burr with a strop there must be some wrap-around the edge so the strop will convex the last few microns of the edge. I personally can't find nothing bad about this.
At the moment I like strops and I don't like the concept of micro bevels.
