Is this normal?

Josh--- Horton can hollow it for ya... but he no longer is doing mods.
I'll do it! :D

I can kinda feel ya Josh, the Hollow Ground did look great on the first manix II.
But think the FFG edge will be just a bit tougher, and the manix is a knife made for toughness. I still plan to buy the first model soon, as its a great deal and will still be plenty tough for a folder. The hollow ground is also the most easy of any grind to sharpen IMO, and keep sharp since the edge is not getting thicker with each sharpening.

I have many custom and factory hollow grinds, and there esp good as a thin edged hunting knife. That being said I did just order a Dozier KS-3 with a flat grind(which is not his favorite grind) at a $30 up charge, and most of my fixed blades are flat ground.
IMO both are great grinds, along with the convex...so it all boils down to, we really do need ALOT of knives...or thats my excuse for NEEDing so many and I'm sticking to it:p

The hollow grind looks better, the FFG performs better. Well, I have both now. :D

I have several of the original Mini Manix and Manix knives. When I saw the Manix 2 with the hollow ground, I wasn't to thrilled about getting one. I like the FFG of the original Manix. When the S90V Manix 2 was announced with a FFG, I jumped in for two. To me, this is the continuation of the former Mini Manix but with CF, ball lock and more refinement.

The Manix 2 is the same exact size as the previous Mini Manix. I would have presumed Spyderco to name this knife the Mini Manix 2. A full size version is in the works and I'd think it should have the name of Manix 2.

I have both iterations of the Manix 2 as well, and have found I reach for the 154CM hollow ground model more often than the FFG S90V version.

FFG is fine and all, but I'm not a fanatic about it. There's not much I'd use the knife for that a hollow grind wouldn't do just as well as the FFG. Frankly, I think the FFG craze is a bit out of hand, but I suppose that also depends on your usage too. For me not that big of an actual, perceptible difference.

Aside from my indifference over the grind, I find I actually prefer the heft of the 154CM version. That, and because it's a shocking huge deal for the price I paid for it, it has endeared itself even further to me.

Not to say my S90V/CF model isn't awesome- it surely is- I just expected the sprint run model to completely displace my "regular" Manix 2, and it just hasn't happened. So far, one comes with me everywhere, and the other sits and looks pretty.
