Is this really a H.I khukuri?

Looks nothing like any HI khuk I've ever seen pix of.
Looks like standard bazaar khuk.
If it were HI should have an ID stamp on it.

If it was purchased ten years ago it might be. The Newaris of the Kathmandu Valley probably made this knife and we used to buy a few khukuris from them. We knew some of the shop people and told them if they used spring steel and hardened the khukuri for field use we might be able to sell a few. Pala inspected these knives and if they were up to hard field use and he felt they could be guaranteed with the HI guarantee he'd buy a few. This might be one of those.

It could be an old HI knife from shop 1 (c. 1995-96); but the lousy photo quality, and missing photo of the markings on the right side of the blade, makes it hard to say.

Missing the karda, chakma and hiru jornu but a "perfect" addition to yopu collection. More unintended ebay humor.

As luck would have it, I just found a photo of a very similar knife, that was mailed to me by Bill back in May of 1996.

The description reads:
15 inch Ang Khola: brass embossed water buffalo horn handle - engraved blade, plain scabbard. Price $275.00

The karda and chakma are not shown but they appear to be the standard horn handled pieces supplied with the 15 inch AK.

I've sent a request for better images of the blade...

Wow! $275

I had to force myself to read all the way through the description on that item... when will people learn that ALL CAPS IS NOT READABLE?

very interesting....to say the least....

well, this is a very old H.I AK from days long gone. might have sentimental value!

sorry, didn't mean to imply it was a H.I.

I meant it might be a very old H.I. from a whilte back. Maybe.

I'm ashamed of the prices we had to charge for khukuris early on but when advertising costs eat up half of your gross income as they used to do you either charge enough to stay in business or go out of business.

Pics I was sent:
