Is This Respirator Safe For G10?

Should work fine so long as it fits you. When you put it on and grind some G10 if you smell anything it probably does not fit you properly or the filters are not doing their job. Usually a good welding respirator will work fine. That one is rated for paint and pesticides, I would think dust would be larger than mist.

PS Please let us know were you live so we might be able to help out a little better. Yea I know has nothing to do with a respirator but it will help you get more responses.

Yeah when I take it off i always smell the g10 a lot lol so i guess it works... Is it also ok to work with G10 in a garage if i keep it open and sweep it each time but dont have a vacuum? Or is it still a threat to health after it settles?

Any particulate is a danger. How much would depend on the material. G10 it pretty bad. If you sweep it up or blow it out make sure you are using your resp. Even after you finish grinding, as you know, you can still smell it. If you can smell it you are getting some of the toxins. To be perfectly safe you should get a vacuum and keep the resp on until you are completly done grinding and cleaning.

I would work with it outside when ever possible... the dust is pretty similar to the dust from fiberglass...

Before anything, FIT is the most important thing. Put it on with the filters removed. Put your palms over each filter hole and breath in. The mask should suck into your face and you have a good seal. If not it is no good.

Hello Mathnerdm,

As important as the respirator, I highly recommend you a dust extractor. Well placed while you work, it can suck all the g10 (or any other) dust.
If you only use a respirator, most of the dust will stay and you will inhale it sooner or later.
A workshop air filter helps a lot too.

That filter looks like it could be a multi purpose. But, the add doesn't really say that it is a dust filter. Run the correct filters or your not doing yourself as much good as possible. Standard is green marked filters are for mist of vapors/ Magenta or pinkish for dust and particulate. You can even get stacked filters that get both and a special one for lead.. Thinking that dust is larger than vapor is an incorrect assumption on filters as that is not the way a vapor filter operates.

Buy extra filters that fit your mask. They don't last forever and blowing them out with compressed air is a bad idea. They are very fine and if you damage the filter then the junk will damage YOU.

Wipe the mask out with an alcohol swab when you are done for the day and keep the mask in a sealed bag (Large ziplock). If you don't clean it out you may be creating a real interesting bug collection for your lungs.

will all the MSA filters fit my (paint/multi purpose) respirator or are each of the actual masks different? Or is it just the filters that different?

I've no experience with that brand, but the filter package should declare which make and model it is compatible with.

I would take the mask into the store with me and check it right there before you buy.
