buck119199-1.jpg

Sorry my picture sucks, but here is a photo somone else took of their buck 119 compared to mine, as you can see their handle is alot thicker and I don't know why. Mines from 1991 I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Help please.

Zach if you remember from one of your earlier posts, the guys here thought that your knife was in a fire. The handle material on your knife looks to be epoxy(J-B Weld) that someone fashioned a new handle with. That is why your handle is slimmer.

Thats what I was thinking, I didn't know if it was because of this or because it was an earlier model.

I don't have but one 119, but did just run a gage up and down this herd of 121's I have and there is a LOT of difference in handle widths of the various years.

No,,,didn't take time to analyze the differences by tang stamp.
But these vary from two line inverted to three liners with post 86 codes.

What a lousy post that was.... me bad

Maybe this is a little better. Somehow some pesky 105's snuck in that butcher block with the 121's, but the results are similar for those.

So to pin it down a little better, the oldest inverted two line 121 widest width is 3/4" or maybe a 1/16" less. The rest of the 121's run 13/16th to 7/8". This is at widest point.

The oneliner and two liner inverted 105's run about the same 11/16 as the inverted 121. The three liner 105 pops back out to the 13/16-7/8 like the 121's.

Is interesting that there are a couple of inverted three liner 121's in this herd. I hadn't paid attention to that before.

So yeah, If the other 100 series phenolic's run like these, there could be some handle width differences.

I need to get back to my rat killing...:o

Rangers to the rescue.....

Pictures you say.....sorry only three 121s on short notice. Oldest on right, other two same era. 300Bucks

Another what's interesting, but not really relevant to thread, is tang shapes and blade lengths. Or maybe not...But it is the last photo....300Bucks

300, I think I like the 1980-85 model 121 shape the best.Point, blade and edge configuration.Thanks for the photos.DM

I feel the price of these 121's going up on ebay....lol

Cool pics 300$

Maybe I will give up my deer soup recipe one of these days. :)

I would guess it is because it was easier to sand down the grip in a single plane rather than try to maintain two planes at once (like the cast Buck resin grip)...Your grip is actually pretty well done...It seems to me that the owner had an idea of what he wanted and it turned out pretty well...

Using JB Weld (if that is what it is) is kind of a novel idea...I've used it, but I prefer polyester resin mixed with glass cloth or chopped glass particles ("fiberglas")...

I'd be interested in what others here use...(Redrumm has some fantastic looking natural stone materials that look like they are composites)...Even the Buck people have been pretty vague as to what their impregnated wood grips use... :D

Is that a rat? I was just getting ready to cut up some chicken to make chicken teriyikia and seen this picture. Please tell me its a squirrel.
