I have an rc-4 and 5. They both have this on the blade. I've only had the blades for about 2 months and they have not been used yet. They've been oiled twice. Is this rust? If it isn't, do you guys know what it is? thanks

Certainly looks like it my friend! Nothing wrong with rust however; doesn't even pose a threat if you use your knife for eating or preparing food...as far as I know. When I had rust on my Swamp Rat Chopweiler, I just used a little white vinegar and a cloth and it came off after a little rub. If it is still on there, give it a sharpen and it will come out. Great looking tan RD-4!!! Mine is on the way....:) Hope this helps a bit bro.

Its rust but dont be concerned its what carbon steel does.Hey i really dig your avatar btw it owned my soul for a few months :D

Flitz will work great too:)

Do you store them in leather sheaths? Sometimes kydex can collect moisture too depending on your house.

Your knife is just telling you that it wants to make a trip to the woods. :D

A little use'll get rid of that discoloration lickity split!

A quick tip for people who don't want to watch their edges on RC knives or who do not regularly strop them.

Go buy a decent lemon. Use your RC to cut halfway into it. Draw your edge through the lemon until it is totally coated in juice and pulp. Leave it to dry and then wipe it off. You should be left with a medium gray edge rather than a bright one and the patina will be much more rust resistant than bright steel is.

mustard works great too, Ijust stripped my 1050 AG Russel and had a solid gray mustard patina going in about 15 minutes.

Thanks Boats, I am going to try that:thumbup:

yep it's rust, but don't worry, you'd can get rid of it by: Sharpening, Cleaning and of course USING!! If you still have the rust on your (AWSOME) blade, don't worry it will still preform ;)
