My good friend Jesse, I will gladly keep your RC 4 and 5 entertained and busy while you attend college:)......................it is all I can do for a RAT Friend..........................they will be well worn and happy upon your graduation;)

Just kidding............best of luck in school!!!!

It's all part of the evil master plan. First they sell you 1095 knives. A few years later you're intimately familiar with the rust issues of 1095 steel. Then the evil bastards bring out their D2 line of knives. This has all happened before and will all happen again.

Hopefully sooner rather than later. ;)

I use petroleum jelly on my blades. put a very SMALL amount on each side and rub it in. Works great to stop rust and adds some water proofing (water beads and runs off).

If RAT sells out to stainless, I will cry. I still like 1095 over D2, and I think it shows the seriousness RAT has for their true products, performance over convenience. IMO, if your blade rusts, its your fault for not maintaining it. Back in WW2, they didn't have stainless steel. They didn't even have fancy rust resistant high carbon. You had to spend two hours a night scrubbing all your gear just to keep it functional due to corrosion, and here we complain about running oil over our blades once every few weeks. Jeff is a smart guy, I think he should keep all his knives HC. It's a testament to his company as a whole.

I feel you bro. I go to school in NE AR. It is very humid. I keep a thin coat of oil on my RCs and they are fine.

i dont get to use my RAT knives as much as i would like (work and chores) so i soaked them in vineger (mainly the edges) for a few hours to petina the exposed steel

Ya did you go to ASU jonesboro Jake? Well I took yall's advice and I decided to go to my family's house for the weekend and give the rc-4 some hard use. We have an old barn outside with plenty of 4x4's and I just carved my way though one of em for my rc-4. No more rust!! I love these knives! After carving through a whole block of wood it still shaves sharp. Thanks ratpackers :)

Being from Wisconsin, I have to mention that cheddar cheese will give you a nice patina on carbon steel.

Yep, I just recommended cutting the cheese!
