Is this the original Spyderco

Yep, that's the one, I have the plain edge one and I bought it when they came out with their line of knives, if I'm not mistaken there were variations on the original, the next one was the Co-Pilot, meant to be airline friendly, now that's funny.

Thanks for the link.

The example on that site has a different grind on the top of the blade where the double edge starts, mine is an abrupt cut, the example is tapered

Any ideas?

The earliest of the Workers were plain edged. They also had a 2 screw clip, no lanyard hole, and thin handle slabs with no bevel on their perimeter. The swedge grind was also sharpened. Yours appears to be a somewhat later, version. I'd peg it at late '80's early '90's. As for the transition between the swedge grind and the remainder of the spine, that was more dependent on who ground the blade than on era, per se. The grinding was done by hand, on a belt, so there is a fair amount of variation from knife to knife, even on pristine specimens.

Top knife in the photos below is a "1st Generation" Worker, the lower knife is the "2 screw emulation" Worker from the Evolution set Spyderco offered in 1992.
