Is this the quality to be expected from Stider Knives?

Def. not a Strider. Not that there is anything wrong with that. The Buck has a different grind, steel and blade thickness compared to a Strider.

I think if you return it to Buck, they will repair or replace the knife.

The difference between a Buck knife that happens to be designed by Strider, and a real Strider? $50 vs. $300.

I read somewhere that sharp angles on blades act as "stress risers", so the design of the blade may be at fault, not so much the steel or the heat treat. But I'm just guessing here.

well, first off, it is not a strider, it is a buck and it should be called that. But even then aren't buck knives 100% guaranteed anyway, so there is no loss. Chalk it up to a defective knife and get another from buck. Test that one hard and see if it does the same. if it does then move on to the real thing since your confidence in this one will not be there.

Send it back. If it happened once it can happen again. It is obviously a defective blade, or has a bad heat treatment or some of both.

Strider can't be blamed for this as its a Buck knife. Regardless of the name on the blade its manufactured and sold by Buck knives and its in their lap.

I'd get in touch with them and start a work order to return it.
