Is this wrought iron?

It has black lines running parallel with the bar the thickness of bible pages.

The easiest way to find out is to polish it a bit and then etch it in acid (ferric chloride, or, even better, is sodium bisulfate [NaHSO4]). That will let you know what you have. It's hard to tell from the photos; the corrosion pattern doesn't look especially like wrought though.

EDIT: If this photo is after etching, etch it for longer to know for sure.

Tanks! Ok. The etching fluid is not wery goog. I can only get my hands on 24% vineger but I will buy some.




Cold worked until it cracked. It's extremely ductile.

Looks like wrought iron to me. Forge it quite hot & Have fun with it !
